Hi Geeks!

I have been lurking for the past few weeks, decided to join for some advice!
I’m starting a new course in September for “Fashion & Photographic Make Up”
The College has given me a list of things I will need to set my self up with for the course.
So, I need a basic make up artist kit, pallets, foundation, blushers (You get the roll!) – I want a decent one that’s going to last me for a while. I have seen some cheap ones (ebay) and I’m not sure where to go! Can someone guide me :(

Thanks

Hiya, I get make- up stock from a company called Royal Effem. They are an Italian brand. The customer service is great, they will always call you back if you have a query and the delivery is quick. They have a great range of different foundations and they do pallets for eyes and blush which u can buy refills for. Speak to Shirley she's fab!

Alternatively I get some bits from Screenface in London, they specialise in tv, film etc. Search for them on google and have a look at what they do.

Has your tutor told you exactly what you need?

Inglot is also another good brand.

Hope that's not too confusing! Rhiannon x x

Hi!

Thanks for the reply! No, not yet (I keep emailing her but she hasn’t got back to me) I don’t want to turn up with nothing. I just want the basics really, one of everything. I can then build on my kit during the course!

Have you got any advice on Brush kits? Again, I don't want anything to flashy as I'll be swapping it once I'm qualified!

xx

Oh that's annoying that she hasn't got back to you!

Definitely get in touch with Royal Effem, they are really good with this kind of thing. They will send you some samples and price lists etc. They also do price lists to give to your clients with your profit already worked out for you, foundation is a popular one with my clients.
Go for the extreme lasting foundation as that's got less titanium dioxide in so more matte looking.

With brushes, I searched all over for mine. I finally found a company called Blush Cosmetics. It's a basic set of everything you need to start and it came in a brush bag to keep them organised. It was £50 but that was a couple of years ago now. I still use the set as my back up one so they are of good quality but over the years you will end up picking up various brushes from different places.

Not to get ahead of myself but look into the International Make-up Artist Trade Show in London in January. Great way to learn more skills, pick up some products at cheaper prices and your tutor might not mention it! I've been for the last 2 years and it's amazing!

Sorry for the essay! Rhiannon x x

Thank you!
It's rather annoying not knowing what you exactly need for college! I'm just glad someone has been able guide me in the right direction

Thank you again!

Hi,

The sleek range from superdrug is really good quality for starting out.
I have many of the eyeshadow palettes, lipsticks and blushes in my kit.

Make Up Brushes, Brush, Palette, Brush Set, professional : A good website for affordable high quality brushes.
Artdeco Couture - Professional Makeup +44 (0)151 421 1234 : They offer really good student makeup kits so you could contact them?

Good luck with your course, hope you enjoy it!

I've been thinking about doing a make up course next.

I just wondered if it's acceptable to use Superdrug products when doing a professional make up? I ask, because I know for nails, professional products are held in high regard and to turn to to do a client's nails with Rimmel wouldn't be seen as professional. Also , to do facials etc with standard products available at Boots etc isn't really seen as the right thing to do.

Is it a different scenario with make up to other types of treatment? I wouldn't have thought so.

Hi,
No the sleek range would not be professional to use on a paying clients but they are really good for practicing and for when your doing test shoots building up your portfolio :)
