Hiya, I am reasonably newly qualified as well, so I am sure more experienced geeks will be along shortly to advise. I am insured with ABT, they do student insurance, you can find out more on their website, or call them they are really helpfull. When I was training, to begin with, at the very begining I did a few people free of charge, the nails were not the best as you would expect, but as I got a bit beter I started to chanrge to cover the cost of my materials, and then form there as I got more confident I put my prices up, I still chargr less for family and friends, than I do for my clients, but when I had them asking if I could do this and that for them, i realised they must be good enought to take a little more, all your materials cost money and so even if it is just to cover the cost of this to begin with, so you can buy replacement products when needed, that would be a good place to start. As for what to charge once qualified, you should reseach what is being charged in your area, as this varies a lot, from there you candecide how much you are going to charge. hth x

hiya

thank you for your advice,i have just been on the ABT website and looked at the student insurance, but it states that students need to be supervised by some1 who is qualified (like at college) where as i was wanting to do out of college, (i mite give them a ring once the house settles down (kids n hubby playing on wii lol) i am soo eager to get going with my nail and tanning its unreal lol.

i think i shall do what you said just charge for my suppplies as the do cost and see how things go
..
i will give them a ring and let u know, thanks again

I know the feeling, have a full house myself lol, yea give them a ring, they will be bale to advise you what's the bast way to go about things, if you can't get insurance outwith the college, you could advertise as a student wanting to gain experience, and explain that you are charging for products only, that way any clients you get will be aware of the situation, x

As long as people know that you are still training then the more you practice the better.

hi,

i got student insurance through stuart alexander insurance which states as long as your tutor is happy that u are competant in the treatments u will provide, u will be insured. i got their details from my college vtct assessment booklet. there is a website and u apply online too and it costs about £40 for the year. just make sure u state the corrct treatment codes that u are trained in and not any that u r not. hope this helps x

thank you all for your advice!

thanks sarah for the info..i will look into that insurance....i am going on a spray tan course and paying for it myself 11th jan so i can do the spray tanning and charge,as i have my machine and get my self going.

we aew takin on clients in college end of jan and i think after that im gona start outside of college with the insurance.

i am soo careful wen it comes to insurance n stuff as 1 of the girls in my class is doing nails n advertising and charging people but she said they are friends, imop friends could still sue if something goes wrong! insurance is best.

thanks again xxxx
