Hi, can anyone give me any advice on wiring up a sunbed please? it's a shadow x3 ex salon bed that i bought off ebay. it's just arrived & the couriers said it needs wired direct to the fuse box? is there any other way around this as the bed is in the garage at the back of my house & the fuse box is at the front about 30 meters away!!!! take it i can't just stick a plug on it?!?!?!? haha!! many thanks x

oh lord, my advice is ........... please dont do it if you are not sure. get someone in!

no you cant just plug it in it will blow a 32 amp ring main breaker in seconds! you are going to need a 12mm twin and earth cable running the full 30m length into the garage and it cost around 4.50 a metre last time i bought it as copper is high price at the moment :irked::irked: you will need a separate isolator and breaker if its 40 tubes at 225watt thats 9000watt!! it will need its own 40 amp supply thats why sun bed shops have 3 phase supplies they use enormous amounts of electricity
have you considered a spray tan machine :lol: hth

is this a single or 3 phase machine?

Whether it is single or 3 phase you will need major uprating of your electrical supply and this can only be done by a professional electrician.

If you need 3 phase, the cost, will probably, be in 4 figures:eek:

i don't know the differance between phase 3 or single:irked: looks like i've just wasted a whole lot of money - not funny at all.

I've googled your make of sunbed and it looks like it could be either. Just call out an electrician, he'll be able to tell you everything you need to know

hi, it's single phase. still not sure what to do to wire it up though, it has a big thick cable - like a cooker wire??? crikey & i thought i'd be bronzed up by now!!!

Call the person who sold it to you or if E bay check the description..that should tell you .

If its 3 phase(some how I suspect it wont be)then that's a bummer......hopefully its single phase and yes if it doesn't have a plug top...then you will need an electrician to wire it in back to the mains.
If its a small commercial bed it is more than feasible to have it working in your home...subject to available spare ways in your mains consumer unit.

You really should ring UVL...speak to Lynne(tell her I told you to ring her) ask for her help in pointing you in the direction of the nearest contact they have for engineers that repair, service and install sunbeds nearest to where you are.

Tele 01772 790093 and good luck all is not lost just yet

Ok thats a good start at least its something that can in theory be connected up to the domestic house wiring.

Now the things to do are either

1) ring UVL and see if they can help...not open till Monday of course

2) go through yellow pages and call an NICEIC registered electrical contractor...tell them your looking for a quote for having a 45amp single phase supply to a sunbed ....also when they do come ask them to have a quick look at the bed itself to see if it is safe to wire up...no point in wiring it up if its unsafe to use LOL

Remember the electrician MUST be NICEIC registered..if not dont use them.

HTH

great thanks for this, i'll call them on monday, Collin your a star! thank you! xx
