Hi there guys!

Hope you are all doing Grrrrrreat and are getting all sorted for CHRISTMAS!!!?!

Yaaaaayyyyy can't wait for Santa!!!

..I have a question please, why when a client requests for her nails to be shaped rounded rather than square or squaval does it take me like an extra half an hour, if not longer to complete a set?!!!

I LOVE the look of rounded nails when they are done but I sit there forever after cutting them down, trying to get them nice and oval!!

Square or squoval takes me no time to snip the ends and swiftly file into shape...

Is there a nack to cutting the tips down when preparing to shape nails rounded?...
I cut in sort of a triangle shape at the end :irked: in an attempt to cut down on time, but still takes me aaaages!!

What am I doing wrong ladies?

I feel like a rubbish tech when it's taking me soooooooo long just to shape the tips and it makes me feel like it's the majority of the time made totally boring for us both!! :smack:

The actual sizing and applying of the tips, acrylic application and buffing etc after takes me no time! :irked:

All help is MUCH APPRECIATED!!

Thank you!

I would recommend buying Geeg's book, Nailclass - she explains how to file all nail shapes in it as well as everything else about producing enhancements.

It is available from Sweet Squared, call 0845 210 6060 - HTH

Thanks for that, but I do have this fab book!!

It is unfortunately boxed up still as I have had my bedroom re-decorated and haven't put everything back in it's place yet, so I will have to have a good sort this weekend!

Any individual tips/tricks would also be great if poss'

Thank you!

Its all about the angle of your file there is a tutorial here i will look for it for you x

Count me in on this one two , I hate it when someone asks for oval or rounded nails takes me longer too, its getting them all looking the same, they say though to put the file in the middle of the nail bed to see if both sides are equal apparantly.

Hey Chick,
firstly don't beat yourself up, rounds or almonds are definatly the hardest to shape..
You mention shaping the tip? are you trying to get your free edge shape made before applying the tip to client?

If so I'd change to doing the actual shaping once the tip is applied to the client, it's a whole lot easier when you have a finger to judge it against..

With tips, match em, fit em side to side, preblend the bulk out (leave all the length) apply them then use tip cutters to shorten to length... At this point I would create the free edge shape

Easiest way to get a 'round' tip is. buff a 45 degree angle from either side, but still leave a little bit in the middle squared off. Then just like your squoval (or rounded square) tip the board under the free edge and file side to side while holding the board square... this will take the corners evenly off both sides.. After that just a quick swipe around to smooth it all off..

Then apply, buff etc, etc...

my method is to apply tip and trim to length with tip cutters and then clip off the corners with a pair of nail clippers. whilst doing this keep in mind the central line of the tip so that you can work with symetry.

if you can keep the symetry in the initial stages, when you come to file you will have the same amount of filing to do on each side and should be able to maintain a consistent shape all through the set.

i do agree its easier to do square though
