Hi all,

I'm hoping you guys will be able to advise me with a dilemma I'm having.

I've read lots of your forums on tanning which were really helpful...however I'm trying to choose a tanning machine for my salon.

I've found two machines:

  • one for around £300, it's a solglo compressor, gun & hose - this one looks like a stainless steel box with airvents like a computer
  • the other is £145 and described on ebay as "the latest hvlp pro spray tan machine" - this one looks like a hoover. See link below - if it works.
eBay.co.uk Shop - THE SPRAY TAN SHOP: HVLP Spray Tan Machines:

so, I've a few questions:
  1. Does anyone recognise any of the machines from my dubious descriptions and if so are they any good?
  2. Can anyone recommend a machine that isn't too expensive?
  3. Should I be considering a mobile machine...so far I haven't but I know alot of people on this site use them?
  4. Does anyone know if the 2 types of machines i've described use any tanning products/solutions?
Any help and advice will be gratefully received.

Sparkles & wishes...

Totally honest answer, i wouldn't buy either of them,
the solglo is an air brush compressor, most of us use and get a better result with a good HVLP machine,
the one you have seen on ebay, i had this (expensive mistake) a few years ago, uses around 160 mls solution per tan, applies to heavy and blotchy, you get loads of over spray hth,
if you are looking for a reliable machine that can be used in the salon and mobile and gives great results, your best bet is the T200

Thanks very much LoubyLou. I'm going to search the t200 online over the next few days & compare prices. I've found one already which is £245 ex vat (I think I remembered that correctly) so I hope this is a good one. It's new not second hand...so hopefully I'll get at least a one year guarantee.

Thanks for replying so quickly I'm really glad you did because I assumed that the t200 was really better suited for mobile tanning.

Also the descriptions I'd seen on websites said the t200 was better for low volume use...and I wasn't sure what low volume really is...so I guessed not for salon use.

Thanks once again...I feel reassured that I'm going to buy something that will be cost effective and good quality.

i brought a machine from celebrity secrets and its a new machine called sun bliss 08 you can buy the whole kit for 495 which includes loads of goodies plus a pop up tent! i suggest you try and get some information from them in regards to it cause its the latest hlvp machine. number is 0845 4564678 hope this helps x

Hi - Overspray is basically any solution that doesn't end up on the client. Some HVLP machines are not as accurate as others and you may well waste a lot of solution as a result. You need a machine with a very fine nozzle (0.6 mm if possible) to control the application. The brand new Suntana Spray Tan Machine has been carefully developed with this in mind. At £145 it’s a very affordable option

Poor quality machines produce lots of over spray, this is tanning solution that goes into the atmosphere and all around the salon, causing a mess,
you will see how little over spray our machines cause when you come over hun,
i don't use a tent, just a towel for the clients to stand on and i never get any problems with over spray and my salon is pink is white so it would be very noticeable,
(you keep saving & i will see you soon )
