The FDA are starting to increase regulations regarding tanning beds as they follow in Europe's footsteps. Currently, tanning bed use is only banned for minors in eight states, but this new legislation requires all tanning bed manufacturers to put a warning on their devices that they should not be used by anyone under 18.
According to the American Academy of Dermatology, over 2 million of the 30 million sunbed users in the United States are teens and according to research it's an addictive habit that you don't want to get started on. Studies show that if you start indoor tanning before the age of 35, you can increase your risk of melanoma by up to 75 percent.
Maybe one day there will be a time when sunbeds are banned altogether but until then there's only one safe suntan and that's the kind you find in a bottle or a tube.
Until then...geek on!
