Liverpool has followed in the footsteps of London Fashion Week and operated a zero-tolerance approach to the use of sun beds amongst models. The decision followed a survey by Liverpool City Council that discovered that fifty per cent of 15-17 year old used sun beds in the city, compared to only eleven per cent nationally.

The decision has largely been welcomed by the fashion, beauty and medical industries but some have found it controversial. The Sunbed Association have called the ban 'outrageous' and nothing more than a 'publicity stunt' and as a result have requested the data collected by Liverpool City Council, which they have not received.

Gary Lipman, The Sunbed Association chairman, disagrees with the ban but does say that he welcomes efforts by the council to ensure tanning is responsible.

Until then...geek on!
