Can anyone advise me please???

I'm a CND Master Tech and have been a nail tech for 10 years.

I'm REALLY interested in trying to get into teaching/tutoring students who wish to become nail technicians, by giving them a quality, sound education.

I'm appalled by all the horror stories I'm hearing from customers who have had bad experiences in NSS's and feel I'd like to make a little contribution..by educating students/nails tech's properly.

I've also heard quite a few young ladies say "Oh we did nails at college!" yet aafter asking a few basic questions....bless their hearts...most of them (in my experience) have had vague, unsupervised training ..mass produced in a class FULL of trainee beauticians! One girl even told me "The teacher never watched what we were doing, as long as you had 10 nails on by the end of class, you passed!!!". My heart sinks when I hear stories like this.

I try and advise newbies or wanna-be's to take specialist 'nail education' (CND of course!! ha ha...not that I am biased!) if they are serious about becoming a nail tech. My point is, that you would not go to your GP for surgery as he is a GENERAL practioner rather than a specialist..you'd go to a surgeon, just because they both have training in the medical profession.

Meaning...'learning nails' at beauty college isn't always the BEST education as can be more of a GENERAL education.....ge educated and trained by specialists.

So, with that said...I've started doing a bit of research..but am confused ...what should I be aiming for in order to be able to tutor/mentor/teach students? An A1 Assessors Award...or a 7406????

I'm not really wanting to go down the route of training NVQ students, something shorter term.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :lol:

I have been a nailtech for 6 years and then went on to do beauty therapy Levels 2&3 a 3 year course during which, one of the tutors took me under her wing (so to speak). As i was experienced in nails the tutor said they were desperate for nail tech tutors (as the ones that they had were tharapists that had just done a few nails etc ). My tutor got a lecturer (from the techer education unit ) to speak to me about the qualifacations I would need. He said if i wanted to work as a full time lecturer (new legisaltion says-) i would need a certificate in education(cert ed). If i was to lecture part time i would need a city & Guilds 7407( or whatever number). I went on to start the cert ed course but unfortunatly due to an assault in my home on myself and my husband I was unable to finish the course. the cert ed course is excellent, very intense, full time, with 6 hours per week of actual teaching in college, and in my area you receive a £6000.00 bursery for doing it. (thats all the incentive I needed- :lol: lol!!!) oh forgot to say the course fee's were paid by the local education authority for me and I got myself a nice student loan ,lol
Not sure what kind of teaching qualifications you need to work for private companies/manufacturers)

oh, forgot to say that whilst teaching vtct course at college we had to use the students crappy college kit products (say no more)lol
