Hi

Well today I have decided to totally change my business. I set up in a market in September with a nail bar offering shellac/gelish and a seperate treatment room. Nails was the main thing and my business name and marketing materials all reflect this. And this is what I have been doing. I have a self-employed beauty therapist who does the beauty side and also nails when required.

Anyhow my therapist recently told me she did not want to do shellac or gelish nails - only now and then when she had to. I have been struggling on with shellac and gelish and the whole nail thing and its not going right - problem after problem and I am really not enjoying it at all and hate having to go in. Infact we have just been doing 3 days each.

I have started to learn new treatments and did my waxing course yesterday and loved it. And the trainer said I was really good at it (the trainer at my manicure course made me feel like I was dunce of the class and suggested I go get my eyes tested - which may be the reason my confidence is so low with nails!!)

I have also learnt eyebrow and eyelash tinting and am leaning lash lift on thursday. So its now going to be a beauty business which includes nails but does not specialise in it. I would love to specialise in waxing and eyebrows/eyelashes and am also going to try learning the cluster lashes. But early days - see how that aspect goes as you need such a steady hand.

Have to say it is such a relief now I have made my decision. My therapist is really happy about it too. So a bit of redecorating, total rebranding, business name etc - lots of practice on my new skills for me - there is no way I am going near a paying client until I am 100% confident.

Will still do nails - and hopefully WILL get to grips with Shellac and gelish - if not perhaps I could get a part time self employed therapist in to do this. I dont know. Maybe its horses for courses and nails aren't my bag.

Feeling happier - now got to think of a new name..... And then start marketing the beauty services.

xx

Good for you for taking the decision to move on. Nails is not for everyone and theres not much worse than waking up dreading work every day.

The whole reason for being self employed is to be in control of what you do . Now you will have renewed enthusiasm and that always shows in your work and your home life.

Hey there.. well done for making a decision and having a thriving business. Why not employ/rent a desk to a nail tech for the nails side of it, someone who is realy passionate about nails. Then you dont have to do it all yourself. But if she was off sick or something and a client needed a re shellac etc you know you will be able to do it for them if need be.

Nails definitely is not for everyone nor manicures. I have always said and I still say it is a specialist treatment and should be done by caring specialists. Some can cross over but those ones are rarely really great at nails and usually only adequate. ... They definitely don't have the X factor with nails; if they did, they would not have time for anything else

I like the way Sarahpoppy is thinking. Rent that space to someone who is really good and really loves it.

Wishing you all the best though for the future. X

Present company excepted Gigi LOL!

I agree though it is a good and positive thing that you have made this decision. There is no shame at all in deciding you are not suited to something and I actually take my hat off to you!

I wish you the best of luck in your new treatments. I love both nails and waxing, bit dodgy with the old eyelashes though LOL!

See you over on Skin Geek eh? :wink2:

Love what you do.and do what you love........says it all .good luck xxxx
