I've just driven past a therapist who was in full uniform and smoking furiously.

I thought it looked really strange seeing a therapist smoking, call me naive or insulting, but it was weird.

Well ............................ Oh Dear here we go, im a smoker and all but one of the hairdessers in the salon i work in smoke.

Very interesting thread, I have found more people in the beauty business smoke than many others....

It will be interesting to see who owns up to the filthy habit lol

i own up to the errr filthy habit....ive tried to quit nowadays but it's the stress! but i never smoke when im with a client or in my house..i go outside hail\rain\thunder or snow ..i stopped when expecting my son now 18 and started again 8 yrs ago ...daft mistake:eek:

Im a secret smoker....only have one when i am a little worse for wear on the drink front.....but i HATE it at all other times (what a hypocrite!):green:

I'd hate to go for a facial and someone lean over me/breathe on me/ do a treatment of me stinking of **** YEUK !

Hi,

Ok yes I smoke, but if I try not to smoke during my working day. If I do need a smoke I wash my hands right after and use perfume and deoderant. I never smoke where potential clients can see me.

Yes it is a dirty habit and I have been cutting down, Im at 3-4 a day now in total.

xxx

Tough one ... not sure how to answer this one now seeing as I've quite 2 days ago

OK, I don't so much have a problem with therapists smoking, but it should never be done in front of clients or where clients can see them.

Secondly, if you are going to smoke, you should make sure that you brush your teeth afterwards or rinse with a strong mouthwash and thoroughly wash your hands to get rid of the smell.

An extra step that could be taken is to spray some perfume on your clothes afterwards.

This might sound like a lot of hassle, but it's the price you're gonna have to pay ! No one, especially non smokers want to have a treatment smelling smoke or less than fresh breath from their therapist !

I used to do this after every cigarette (client or no client !) because my partner HATES it. You can imagine how shiny my ivories are and how clean my hands are

Its coming up 2 years since i quit smoking and i absolutely detest it now, the smell of **** and stale smoke makes me wretch and gives me headache!

When i was a smoker i had to go out the back of the salon and have a *** where no clients or passing trade could see me.
I always washed my hands after, sprayed deoderants and brushed my teeth followed by a mint.

As the days rolled in to weeks and the weeks in to months i got as i dreaded certain clients coming for treatment. I have nothing against them personaly other than that quick *** on the walk to the salon then the 5 mins stood outside puffing away to finish it off....EURGHHHH the smell:rolleyes:

That said i found i cut down to around 2 a day through my working hours of 9am - 8pm, maybe thats why i found it a doddle to go cold turkey and quit after 26 years a smoker?

I used to smoke but gave up 3 years ago. I once worked alongside a beauty therapist who would put a face mask on a client during a facial, and then leave the building for a ciggy! Ten mins later she would come back in and spray perfume on, and go back to the client to continue in a cloud of *** smoke and perfume.

Apart from not being very pleasant for the client, there is also the worry that the client could panic being on her own with eyes covered, or have an adverse reaction to the product left on her face.

I hate seeing therapists smoke and I hate the smell of it! I remember going for a facial once (that I spent a heck of a lot of money on!) and y'know I couldn't smell the products because all I could smell was the therapists smokey fingers! YUCK!!!

I think that in this industry we should be taking care of our appearance when we're seeing clients and part of that appearance is personal hygiene - and that includes smelling of smoke, bodily odour or even too much cloying perfume! IMHO anyways.

Also, to be quite honest - I think therapists of all people should know better! Don't we say to our clients how much smoking damages your skin?!?!

mint mouthwash and good ol perfume comes in handy i do this all the time. and i use the long sticks(lady sticks) that you put ur cig in when i have a smoke and scrub my hands afterwards.OMG i would never dream of leaving a client just to nip out for a quick puff ..dangerous

you think thats bad...you wanna drive past A&E at lunch time...all those doctors and nurses standing outside having a ***....

I don't think its odd at all...lots of different people smoke, doesn't make any difference what job you do....unless you work for a anti smoking company then i guess it would seem odd...

Our hospital in Dundee was like that... all the sick people had to walk through CLOUDS of smoke to get into the hospital!!! It always amazed me too to see all the PATIENTS (some of them still hooked up to drips or catheters or wotever!!) standing outside the entrance for a smoke!

Unbelievable!

nothing to feel bad about...thats what i am saying, if your a smoker your a smoker no matter what job you do.

That reminds me of the song Smokers outside the hospital doors, and the line "the saddest thing that i'd ever seen were smokers outside the hospital doors. "

So true:cry:

Hiya,

I was a smoker and I'm sorry to say, It's the one thing i can not stand smelling on other people..the smell of ****

Some of my clients smell of smoke, I carry a pkt of mints and always ask them to wash hands after they have smoked.

I'm very nice to my clients, I wear perfume, don't smoke and never eat garlic if i do close up work..I save that for my days off.

I had my eyes tested the other day, by a very well presented, polite yound Asain guy in Asda. I commented how nice he smelt. It was so nice to smell his aftershave. It's very important to smell good when you work so close to people.

If i had a tech that had bad breath and smelt funny, I would not find pleasure in that clinic for further treatment.

Many years ago I had a set of nails done by a girl who ate a tuna samwich, drank two cups of coffee and went to the loo for a puff on her ***, while chatting with her son on her mobile about bringing some booze back from France. YUK and more YUK. I never went there again and the nails were pants.

Guys if you smoke then get some breath spray, keep perfume in your bag and have a mint before you start back to work (and wash your hands, they can hold the smell for hrs)

I have to say, It's 16yrs since my last *** and i still get those feelings of fancying one.

That made me laugh

My doctor used to constantly preach to me about smoking (he doesn't), but yes, it's quite funny when they get all high and mighty about smoking and then they do it themselves !!

Ooh Jenny.... hitting on your Optician :Grope: What did he say when you told him he smelt nice :wink2:

Secondly, don't say that after 16 years of being a non-smoker you still get the odd urge / craving to smoke

I'm only on day 3 and I keep telling myself it will get better
