Ok so I'm relatively new to nails, i did a gel course last year with EZflow but i haven't really being doing much until now. I'm trying to get back into it (did tan course and booked for manicure/pedicure and nail art) But i'm considering doing Acrylic.. Not sure if its worth it tho, it'll cost me a fair few bob to do (gel one cost 1000) so will i get the return?? I'd like to offer it aswell but im worried ill do it but there won't be much interest in it. As i say I'm only kind of starting out again so is it worth the investment now??
on another note I'm struggling majorly with shaping the tips.. I'm fine with square tips but no matter how much i try to give them a natural roundy ovaly shape it just looks strange!! it looks out of proportion or something!! i'm still just doing family and friends but even my mam has given up and gone with the square tips!!
any advise at would be great

Hi, I'm ez flow trained and I also trained in gel first then I did a one day conversion for the L&P. Now I quite like Gel but trying to get timings down for me have not been great because you can 'faff' a lot with gel to get it looking right. You do not have that time with L&P lol !!! It sets......realatively fast lol !!!! However application time a lot faster than gel and you can soak them off !

I personally had no confidence at all with the L&P , so I geeked and came across popits which I am having success with and I have just brought a hand so that I can start practicing the L&P properly!

Personally given my time again

1) Get really good with your gel, be the best you can be .....

2)have a look round at all the L&P trainers, decide whats best for you, a one day conversion or a more substantial course.... you may get the conversion cheaper with ezflow (they usually have a deal on)and then decide that you want a more substantial course

mmmm

Any hoo, as for the tips I also struggle when it comes to anything but square, but it is just a mind set! Get some cheap tips, put on a piece of bluk tac and just practice filing the edges off, taking a bit more off each time until you start to feel comfortable

xx

yeah i really must buy a hand actually and practise my shaping more, I feel like like i'll never get the hang of it though!! It has me tormented!

Im a culprit for playing with the gel too!! And i just cant get me time down because of it.. I'll be happy with them then by the time i finish the hand and go to put them under the light I'll be like "hmm that one could be crisper actually.."
I'd love to do a conversion course with L&P but i cant seem to find anything in Dublin.. unless im just looking in the wrong places so if anyone could shed some light on that for me it'd be great actually!

Also, do you use any ezflow coloured gels?? I'm slightly confused about using coloured gels and mixing brands etc! I feel so clueless

hi

Im in the middle of doing a course with CND in Dublin, they are in Ballymount Industrial Estate in fashion city exit ten of the m50, they are very good i have to say. So if i were you id give them a call. hth

hi Abbi. Did you do you Ezflow gel course with Nail and Beauty systems in Dublin?

They offer L&P conversion courses

The more you know, the more alternatives you'll be able to offer your clients and they will love that, especially if those alternatives give new options for nail art, or look in general.

I was doing only gel at first, but when I learned LP, many of my clients converted to it, because they loved the idea that all the crazy things and colours can be mixed with powder... (not to mention custom blending) at least I was more handy with glitter and LP than with gel (but that's my thing to work on more :green:) and that brought me more clients and smiles on their faces... and money, of course.

And another thing - no matter the fact that nothing is 'more healthier' or 'better' than other, there'll always be clients that want 'something different' and it's good to have ways to answer client's needs and preferences.

To your second question: check this out, Gigi explained it excellently:
http://www.salongeek.com/nail-finishing-maintenance/9201-perfect-form-s-all-matter-degree.html

And forgot this:
clients alway appreciate when they see you improving, learning new things. Not just because new options and looks you give them, they see that you care, that you always strive for better, and not just doing same old same old thing. And after awhile, you get surprised when they tell you, this is soo different than when I came to you xy time ago... But if you're just starting out, don't go into many things at once, perfect one and then move forward.

Sorry for being long, just trying to help :)

Marion, I did the gel course with the Academy on the Naas road. they were very good but they only offer a very small amount of courses! Must get onto Nail and Beauty though and check that out, thanks a mil

cro-mari, thanks for the advice! dont worry about it being long, its more helpful! Yeah i think i'll look into doing it now, am very intrigued by the colors and designs that can be achieved. Think i'm really getting better with the gels, done a set today that i was really happy with, when she left i was kicking myself for not taking a picture because i'd love to hear what you guys think! I might see her tomorrow so i'll try get one then!
That link for nail forms is great too, i'll print it off and try following the instructions... Suppose it'll take time to perfect it

Hi Abbi

The tutorial is a great one! Good luck with it babes x

My honest opinion is that you need to crack acrylic nails before you move to gels. Until you have perfected your filing technique and can create perfect oval nails why would you spend more money?

Is your idea to give up on acrylic in the hope that using gel will solve all problems? Because it won't. You simply have to tie down the basics and when you have mastered one material then is the time to move to gels. Once you have cracked gels by all means start on nail art.

Thanks Pam, will get onto them monday morning to get more info! yeah im heading to BITE this weekend.. havent heard anything about this surprise tho!! be very interested to see what it is !!!

Bob, I actually do gels at the mo and was thinking about training in l&p too. I'm not really trying to solve anything just broaden my knowledge of nails and the other systems out there. Im getting quite good at the gels now but its just the shaping that gets to me! I'm not really planning on jumping into an L&p course was just interested to see what everyone thought about using acrylics because i was really in two minds about going for it.

I've decided (thanks to you guys) to go ahead with it but i mite leave it a little while before i do. going to check out few tutorials here first to try perfect my filing and such.. I'm just so eager to learn more because im really enjoying it now!! Have a tanning machine on the way too so one thing at a time i guess!:lol:lol
