Hi,
I'm just after some pointers really I did jnfortunately go to an nss some months ago and my nails are completely ruined- flaky and peeling and will not grow more than a couple of milimeters before splitting.
Please can someone suggest something to help, iv tried sally hansen gel topcoat and seche vite but nothing seems to work!

I love nail art but there's just no point in even painting my nails as they chip after a couple of hours because they're so soft!

Any Advice would be appreciated
lauren x

Regular oil manicures with a reputable salon--with maybe some NailTek II or Rejuvicote topcoat until they start growing out.

Hiya Lauren,

Well that's a mistake you won't be making again in a hurry. If you were my client i'd keep your nails nice and short, and send you home with some solar oil and toughen up. Or you can go for a thin overlay, this would protect any damage and add that extra bit of strength. Which one i would choose would depend on the damage to your nails. but the key to remember is keeping them short, and lots of TLC,x

Thanks ladies! I certainly won't be making that mistake EVER again! I got them when I was about 14 on and off for the past 5 years so they're in a bit of a state, I try to look after them as much as I can useing cuticle oil &remover and good quality products but it's just not enough. I think I'm going to go for the manicure option as I will be doing a nail tech course next year so can't have enhancments of any kind. I kind if feel quite ashamed I went to an nss and now want to be a tech- I guess you live & learn.

Thanks for the advice :) it's much appreciated any other tips would be great too!

Hi hun, have you done a manicure course? Only reason I ask is because my nails used to flake a lot, because I used to file in a see-saw action (causing friction then peeling) I didn't realise I was doing it wrong until I started my nail course at college, stopped doing it now and they havent done it since!
It may not be that, may be purely due to NSS, but thought I'd ask :)

Hey Hun thanks for reply. No I haven't done my manicure course yet, I was Hoping to do that and Extensions this year but funds won't allow (I've just bought my first house) so am having to put it off until next year (which I'm pretty much devastated about) so that's why I'm just tying to get some pointers on looking after my own nails ATM lol :) it's somethj g I want to do sooo much so I'm gutted I can't get started right away! I have (I think) an essie cuticle oil but would solar oil be much better? X

In my opinion NOTHING is better than solar oil. Worth buying definitely. God luck!

Definately solar oil with regular manicures and a good hand cream too. Hopefully your nails will get back to their former glory with some tender love and care! My nails are like this naturally though and nothing I use will stop it so I have to wear enhancements full time.

Im glad that worked for you... but you can use a back and forword (sea-saw ) fileing tech on natral nails if the grit is good 220 or more there will not be a problem with this... some say it even helps to seal the free edge.

my other advise would be get shellac done ! :)

Solar oil, parafin wax to seal it in, keeping them very short and applying China Glaze strengthener, worked really fast to get mine back in shape :)

Hi Hun I swear by Nailtek!!! Fab product, but to agree with others also keep nails well manicured and quite short - use nailtek and you will soon see a difference. You could also use a glass nail file, they don't split the nail and cause friction. xx

I'm a newbie so may not be right but my college tutor told us that if you file in a see-saw action, it creates friction then causes your nails to peel, is this incorrect information? Since completing the course I have found a lot of the things we were taught to be incorrect, such as blending tips with acetone, so I would like to make sure I know what is right and what is wrong. Thanks.

It's kind of old thinking , I guess like I said it stands true with rubbish files, and the wrong grit , so it's sort of left over from the days when files wear sand glued on cardbord lol
