Tips and Tricks (I tried tigers eye nail)

I attempted Tiger Jay's 'tiger eye' nail art tutorial. Didn't turn out anywhere near as good but was wondering if you guys had any hints or tips under your hat? Not just for this nail but anything.
Like which brushes, paint, methods. Any 'tricks of the trade' you'd like to share?

Snap I just did that nail as well, lol. I have gone nail art mad lately just abut to put some more pics in my gallery. I use water based acrylics from Asda and Hobby craft also got a few brushes from Hobby craft as well, striper brushes a must. The rest is just practice I would say. xxx
