Hi , I was just interested to know as I had a client phone today, if your quite new to the industry do you tell new clients you are?

I had a lady phone today, who seemed really interested, was just about to book and she asked how long Id been going for, when I said a year, she said , oohh your quite new then , and then said her diary was in the car will have to check that date and get back to me.Well what a surprise havent heard back, just thought maybe if Id said Id been going longer she may have called back.

Ewww, how mean! I definitely don't think lying is the way to go, but I'm not sure I'd know what to say were I faced with the same thing. You could tell her, "Yes, I'm fairly new, but the good thing about that is that my technique is fresh and efficient and I am trained in and utilize the newest innovations in the industry, which maximize your nails' beauty, strength and health." Or something like that.

Maybe you should give her a couple days, then call her and ask if your "inexperience" put her off? Might as well be honest the whole way; you won't lose anything if she says yes and you explain that you are on the top of your game and she stubbornly says no.

Good luck with that. =)

When people ask me, I tell them, well I've only had my own full time business for a year, but have been training and working part-time a lot longer than that!

It seems to satisfy most - you've been around nearly 2 years anyway Debbie, so no harm in say two anyway!

Well yes I did realise after what I said ,its being mobile that Ive been for nearly a year ,not doing nails for one year, sposse it was my own silly fault, I ll remember to say this in future ah!

Aww how rude lol .... a years experience could mean one day a week for a year or 6 days a week for a year but i know techs that have been doing nails for several yearsand they still have't got the concept. i think that was a bit shallow of her as you could be amazing for all she nows but the again some people do prefere long time experience never mind there will be more :) xx

Omg, cheeky woman! I don't think you should be judged on the length of time you have been doing nails. As long as you act confident and reassure clients that you do good sets of nails, they are more likely to book in.

But you do get those ladies who think they know best! I've started at a salon just over a month ago and everything has been going good (I have 2 years experience). There is another tech there who has been doing nails for 16 years and they are absolutely awful!! We had 2 weeks of complaints non-stop with me fixing all the nails!

Just brush it off and think of next time - super confident, and if they don't book, it's their loss!!

xx

i would lie!!
as long as you can walk the walk!!!!!!!!!

I would say that maybe you had a lucky escape.
If shes that shallow about the 'length of time' rather than how good you are or the experience and training you have received, then good luck to her.
She sounds like she could have potentially been one of those bloody clients!!

Dont be put off, I wouldnt have lied, I think honesty is a good quality to share and most people appreciate it!! Better that than giving the old "yeah sure I do the best nails in town" and they may not necessarily be....
(not that im meaning you!!).

Your potential client isn't to blame .......
There are so many bad techs out and about, she just wanted someone "experienced".

You had the perfect opportunity to not only say what you said, but to add, trained in the latest technology and methods to create natural looking enhancements, then add, "I understand your needs and doubts finding a suitable technician, please feel free to browse my online album for examples of work done by me, I'm sure you will be pleased with the end result, please feel free to contact me soon.

You have to sell yourself, if she had booked, she may not have shown up, they have to want you, now make them do it.

personally, i dont lie, i dont see the point

all my clients know how long i have been in the business and are perfectly fine with it. i know people that do lie about there skills and there longivity in the business and i personally think its wrong - its nothing to be ashamed of and what goes around comes around!!! honesty is the best policy in my book !!!

its all to do with professionism yes some people do want someone with more expereice but that doesnt mean to say that you are not as expereinced as someone with 7 or 8 years expereince.

some people have the natural ability to pick things up quick and excel. i would put something to that effect in your advertising / business cards and you will be amazed at the potential responses.

good luck and dont worry about it these things happen
