hi guys.

i've just gone to trim my 11 year old's toenails, and the big toes are a horrid shade of light brown!

i've had toenail fungus in the past, so i recognised it straight away.

he is one of those people who only needs a trim every couple of months, so they could have been like this for some time....how guilty do i feel as a mum.

i've had a look online and have seen that neat tea tree oil is good for sorting it out, but wanted to ask you all if there is anything else that you could recommend?

my gp gave me some cream when i had it, but it took an absolute age for it to work!

any and all advice greatly appreciated.

This may not be a fungus at all. So many young people have this from the pressure on their toes from wearing trainers all the time. My husband got the same type of thing while trekking abroad. The discolouration just grew out .. there was no fungus.
To be sure of a true fungus the DR has got to grow a culture.
If it is, then creams are very ineffective. Ask for Lamasil or Lodisil TABLETS .. tablets get to the seat of the infestation where creams do not.

Go to the doctors.

Firstly because that's a child, and secondly, nails can have changes that may look like fungus and not be one, and vice versa. I'm not questioning your judgement, but fungus is a little devil with so many faces...

I've seen fungus (and I've seen a lot) that went away after DIY treatments and ones that didn't. And those that didn't outnumbered the first ones.

I'm not sure naming medications that can be bought, because they might have different name in your country, but my clients had best results with medications dr prescribed.

P.S. added: hehe, Geeg said it already as I typed :)

thanks guys for your advice, it's much appreciated.
