I have had a client who has just come back from a holiday in Las Vegas - whilst she was there she went to have a rebalance as she had gone over her two weeks and it would have been 4 weeks before she could get back for her appointment here.

She booked in with the nail technician in the hotel and they chaged her $70 (about £37) for her rebalance. The technician talked her into having nail art which she really didnt want and all it entailed was 3 lines with a striper brush and then after it was on she told her that would be another $50 (£26).

The technician also told her that if she had needed the whites redone then that would have been $140 (£75).

The nails were off within 2 days

Is this standard prices for Las Vegas (does anyone know) or was my client severely ripped off because she was a tourist.

I have suggested she writes to Virgin Holidays as this is not very good tourist information!

Hi ,

A friend of mine has just come back from Las Vegas, I dont no about the hotel prices although she was in a very swanky expensive hotel, lucky so and so, but she said there were little nail booths dotted around all over the place, she recalled them to be very expensive but also very busy. She said Las Vegas was very expensive the only thing that was cheap was food.

I definately wouldnt pay that much, neither did she. Rip off on the nail art.

Well tourists pay through the nose all over the world!

Look at the price of a coffee in London in any decent place!

YOur client had the choice that everyone has ... to say NO. Why did she not excercise that choice?

When we were in Zimbabwe recently, we paid 25$ to just walk and see the Victoria Falls. Any local person pays 1$ .... we knew we were going to have to pay over the odds before we went ... this is life.

Prices can be expensive in different places. Example, the Spa I work in in Downtown Chicago is considered pretty expensive ($80/full set). But there should be the same fee for everyone!! Not cheaper for locals and higher for tourists. The charge for such elementary nail art is ludicrus!! I feel bad that your client got jipped like that.

Unfortunately, everything in Vegas is expensive, except the food. There are nail salons on almost every corner, and they are usually NSS(non standard) so they seem to be less expensive until they start adding everything up. They charge for a regular rebalance and twice as much for a french rebalance, then if you want polish they charge for the base coat and top coat, and art if they can talk you into it. You can't get out of the salon for less than about $70 if you are in the tourist areas. There are affordable quality salons in Las Vegas, but they are away from the strip and out of the casino areas. So unless your client was familiar with the area, she would have a hard time finding a salon that wasn't so expensive. I have several friends who are Nail Techs in the Las Vegas area, and their average price is about $50 for a new set ,$30 for a regular rebalance, and $35 for a french rebalance. Your poor client got ripped off!

A hotel in London (or probably anywhere) where they have a beauty salon is likely to be a pretty swanky hotel, so I bet it would cost just as much. Didn't your client ask the price before she booked?

I have been to the States a number of times and the hugh amount of competition (as someone else pointed out) seems to keep the prices lower than here. The current exchange rate makes it even better for us Brits.

Since all ladies with enhancements (and all us techs) can spot a good set of nails a mile off. My advice for long holidays is watch out for local waitresses, receptionists, shop workers etc. with good nails, compliment them and ask where they had them done! They are not likely to be paying swanky hotel prices!

The Americans are generally very hospitable when you are in their Country and I have always found everything to be cheaper there than here. I am off to Vegas in a few weeks time. Since I can't help picking up price lists every time I pass a salon  I'll check out the average price.

One other thing, because she knew she was going to need a rebalance, could she have got a list from somewhere of Creative Techs in the Las Vegas area before she went? At least that way the quality could be assured.

And one more thing again. Are there a lot of NSS's in Vegas? Are the licensing rules very different for each State? With the licensing laws, is it still possible to have a NSS?
