Why is the North sea called the North sea when it is in the East ?

It's a darn site further north than any sea I can get to easily!!!!!! That makes it the North Sea to me :lol::lol:

Where does the north sea stop being the North Sea, is it at the English Channel? Maybe it should be renamed the East Sea.

As a child I lived in Whitley Bay, right on the North Sea and had many a happy time playing in it, I don't even remember that it was cold!

Maybe because it refers to oil and gas produced from the oil reservoirs beneath it....I remeber many a wander along Aberdeen beach and spotting a few oil slicks:confused:
