Hello everyone,

Been interested in Nails for some time now, fortunately Iv got the opportunity to change career and work for myself so decided to train as nail tech and preferably work mobile.

Is it best to train in all methods or specialise in one?

Is there alot to do before you are up and running?

Also does anyone know any good nail courses in the Norfolk area?

Thanks for your help...

Kelly:)

In my opinion it is best to train in all systems manicure, pedicure Gel, l&p, so that you can offer your clients a full professional service. What suits one client may not suit another and you dont want them to go elsewhere because you can't provide what they want. If you put a search in for training and also setting up your business their is absolutely loads on both of these subjects. Its a lot of reading but all very informative. Do a lot of research with various companies and look at the training offered, what products are on offer etc and the support that they offer.

Good luck with your venture and happy reading!

i am only in the training stages myself at the moment so cant give you a very experienced answer...but im sure someone round here will! I would say that you should just concentrate on one method to start with and there is a hell of a lot of practising lol to do before you can get up and running...I guess it depends how much time you can devote to your training....which is a continual thing enen once your qualified...hope this helps...a bit! lol x

I agree that the more you know about all the different systems the better...but dont you think that someone starting out would be better to concentrate on either l&p OR gel...one at a time i would of thought?

I agree with Anna here. lol

You have to start with one system and master that before being bombarded with 3 or 4 different methods and products. Slowly slowly and get it RIGHT from the start.

Eventually, as Nail Frenzy says, you need to learn them all and do them all equally well to satisfy all the damands of every client.

Learning all there is to know is not easy so don't make it more complicated by biting off more than you can chew.

I would personally suggest Liquid & Powder (sometimes incorrectly referred to as Acrylic. Why? Because all nail systems are acrylic based.) to start with because simply it is the most asked for service by women and it commercially only makes sense to be able to do what is the most in demand in my opinion.

L&P is also an exacting ART and once you have mastered it, other methods and systems seem easy by comparison.

L&P is also very durable and long lasting which is why nail technicians and clients love it so much.

There are some superb threads here on the site if you search training.

I Would also agree that it is best to stick to one thing as your brain will be well fuddled  if you try to master too many things at once. I´m a very newly qualified L & P tech and I wouldn´t be able to find the time or people to practice on to start with something else now. Take your time and keep smiling through it, it really is an art. Good Luck :) Di x

thanks for that, will look at L&P courses and also do some searchs on here first.

Sorry, I did'nt mean it to sound like you should learn all systems at once and I agree with Gigi, l&p first. :)

Gigi is 100% right (and annabanna )

I trained in all three, my training as just finished and i was lost. I had to digest so much information that its hard to absorb it all.

I then read a thread about different nail books, and nailclass was mentioned which is written by Gigi. I bought it ( brilliant book ). Gigi posted on that thread that you should master each section before moving on to the next, By god that lady is always right. So i am now mastering each section in turn, even down to prep and applying tips and blending tips then of course L&P. Very valuable advice. Deffanetly train in one thing at a time, its TOO much trying to learn all of them at once and you will find, like me you have to go back over it and do each part anyway.

All the best with your training, xxx

Hi

I went on a 5 day nail course inthe first day it was manicures, second day fibre glass and silk 3rd day L&P 4th day UV Gel and 5th day all of the above. It was a very tiring week and to be honest i didnt have enough time to learn a lot. Looking back i wish i had done a course on one of the above and mastered it b4 doing anything else. All i learnt was a bit of everything which tbh wasnt enough.

Good Luck

I myself am new to being a nail tech. I took a course that was 8 3 hour sessions. i learned manis, L&P sculpting, gel and fiberglass. I was never taught how to do pedis and it seemed like i was given cheap supplies and a pamphlet and was told here do it. My class was a part of a hairdressing school so i never got one one one attention and it just seemed like what i was learning wasn't important. I know that with a lot of stuff you are just gonna learn by doing which is okay but i didn't even know what an apex was till i found this site. Its very frsutrating when you read things on this site or when you see pics of the beautiful work the people here do and you feel like you don't measure up. I hope that with this site i will be able to learn more and get as good as some of the people here.
