Hi, I am new to salon geek and am interested in training as a nail tech to earn a bit of extra money in the evenings when I return to work following maternity leave.
The only course I am able to attend is with the nta in abercynon, it is 5 days full time and claims to train the absolute beginner to nail tech standard (I would obviously have to pass a practical assessment before I could get insurance).
The course seems legit., you can become a member of the guild of nail technicians once passed, but from reading some of the threads on here, it takes months of practise before I'll be anywhere near ready!
Their link: Nail Divas - Nail Specialists
Does anyone else think this is a good idea?

Why is this the only course you can attend, it is because this is the course that you have managed to find in your area,
there are lots of training providers out there that would probably train you to a higher standard than what these are offering,
yes it is a legit course and it may be recognised by the guild for insurance purposes but is it recognised by other nail companies, if it is not recognised by other nail companies you would not be able to do any conversion courses in the future if you decided you wanted to try a different brand of liquid and powder or gel, which would mean you would have to start from scratch with a foundation course,
and this course is very expensive if it is not recognised by the companies,
i would have a ring around the companies to see if it is recognised by them,
Creative 0845 210 6060
you will have to Google for the numbers of other training providers but i can give you the names
OPI
NSI
Ezflow
you may be lucky when the other girls see this they may add some phone numbers for you hth

Hi and thanks for your reply. I have contacted the training providers themselves and they say that they use a variety of brands during the training (Creative and OPI being two of them), but I will contact these direct to make sure I can do a conversion course (great advice, thanks). The woman on the phone also told me that after the training I could use any brand I wanted, as the results I'll get will be dependent on my skills, rather than how expensive the products are. Does this seem a fair comment?
I say this is the only course I can find (close to my home anyway), as I don't want to do a home learning course, I can't see how I could learn from a book or dvd (no offence to those who have, I'm sure ur very good, I just personally don't like the thought of it).
Many thanks for your reply, I'm now off to do some more research!

As far as i know you wont be able to use certain brands unless you have trained with them.

Just something to rememebr...just because a course/college teaches using a certain brand...doesnt mean that the training is to the same standard that the brand training is....

You can only use any brand you want if the companies recognises your qualification from your trainer,
creative for example will only sell their products to creative trained technicians so the lady on the phone was not 100% correct,
yes hun you are best to have a ring around all the training providers because they can give you the correct info and let you know where they have training nearest to you too hth
