Can anyone help how I would go about coming a trainer in Hair Extensions... I currently teach people in a college but I would like to go at it alone as I only get paid £100 a day and they charge £499 per person and there can be up to 5 in a group!... I want some of the money basically!!

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Is this what I need?
PREPARING TO TEACH IN THE LIFELONG LEARNING SECTOR
If you are looking for a career or career change into teaching this course will provide you with the basic tools to get you started and meets the Government requirements of the first stage qualification. The level 4 programme is offered through Edexcel and runs over 10 weeks for 3 hours per week. We offer a day or evening provision with several start dates planned throughout the year, to meet the demand.

Did you not need a qualification to work in the college?

I would contact the company that you want to accredit the course you are wanting to train and they will let you know what you need to do e.g the Guild or Babtac. I would think you would need the PTTLLS course but check with them.

If you just want to teach ext. then get in touch with your favourite company and ask them. Hair ext. companies are always looking for educators.

£100 a day is not far off the going rate for educators but normally you would also get expenses paid for.

I can train under the college but thats it....

Maybe i didnt explain well enough... I would like to have my own school... Maybeits slightly far out etc but I really feel that is my next step in my buisness now... What do u think? Is it generally more hassle thanits worth?
I'd then like to expaned... Eyelash Extensions training, fake tan, waxing.... lists are endless but i need to start with extensions as it is my passion but i have no idea where to start... I'm fortunate to have pleanty of money to start... but where:eek:

I think having you own school is a great idea. However, just for extensions you may find it tough. In my experience most salons prefer the education at the salon, then they don't have the expense of travelling, accommodation costs to pay on top of training costs.
Education in extensions is a tough and competitive market and most hair companies like to employ their educators. It may be possible to secure a permanent contract with one, so you can teach from your school, I have no idea at all if they do that.

Having a school that teaches many different things may be the way to go but again you have local colleges to compete with who offer courses at cut prices. Unfortunately, people do tend to go for cheap than quality.

I know it is possible to become City and Guilds accredited to teach NVQ hair and beauty as I have also looked into it. I would contact them and go from there. :)

thnx for reply...

Yeh I know its tuff but I was thinking about travelling around to salons as and when but also training memebers of the public who just fancy turning there hand to it... on my hair extension course there was 8 people... none of them hair dressers and they each paid £800 to learn 6 methods... looking at tht company now I jut went to there website all there courses are fully booked until feb 2010 (hair extensions)

Looking at things I think I would have to do a course in Life Long Skills at college which is £500.. I'm not sure where to go after this... maybe becoming accreditted by princes trust and habia.. and a few others.

See I'm lucky in the sense the colleges around here dont do hair extension courses so I think there maybe a market for it. I would be expanding for defo.... ie tanning courses. eyelash extensions. nail courses... lists endless. I just think there is potencially more money to be made in teaching rather than doing.... I've got so much ambition but just not enough money at times lol... Whats the buisness like by you?? xx

If you train members of the public hair ext, then surely you have to train them how to cut and style the hair ext afterwards? I would have thought it impossible for them to get insurance to work unless you register as an NVQ training provider. ( I know a story about a girl in Liverpool who did some seriously bad hair ext after a 2 day course, not a hairdresser, and got sued)

If you are teaching within a college you should already hold the 7303 as a minimum qualification ?

did you manage to find out about institutions that help you become an educator?looking to do the same.
Thankyou in advance
