Hi Geeks,

I am soon making the transition from working in a salon to working in a five star spa. I am excited about this new change but would welcome any advice, as I do not know what to expect.x

Hey!!

I have worked in a 4 star hotel after working in a salon & I really enjoyed it.
Expect alot more treatments like massage & facials (which I love doing!!) You will get package days in with groups of ladies. You will also find you have alot more male clients than salons. Expect to work weekends including sundays & maybe bank holidays.
Its hard work but I loved working In the spa & its good experience too plus we got lots of perks like free gym membership, hotel discounts & complimentry stays in their sister hotels :D.

Good luck, I'm sure you will get on fine

xx

As previously mentioned expect mostly facials and massage. Hopefully they will have a cap on the amount of massage you do in a day, unfortunately the place I work doesn't so can be quite heavy going some days! When I started there it was my first job in the industry so found it quite helpful to send myself on a deep tissue massage course that covered hands free as well.

Good luck

I think one of the other things that you will really notice is that you dont have that same client in regularly,a lot of the clients you will only see once. Also the timings for treatments can be much shorter. It can be quite repetitive also,I think you either love it or hate it,for me I prefer the regular clients but each to their own cherub.Hope you enjoy though x

hi there! i have been working in a 5 star spa for 5 years! even though i am now leaving to go to a seperate spa, i love the spa industry! in a spa, you are pretty much always guarenteed to be fully booked so you are always kepy busy! you find that clients will purchase more products too i find, as they are often there on pamper days for birthdays etc, so have extra money to spend.
As the treatments are more body wraps, massage, facials etc, it is a really nice calm atmosphere. you will almost certainly be trained in at least one, probably even more, product ranges. in the spa im at we are currently using and selling 9 different product ranges! the level of trainging is brilliant too! there is normally a lot more incentives to be given aswell, on both treatments and products!
there will be a lot more people you will be working with ( we have about 40-50 girls at the minute) and im really close with them all, so its deffintely a lot different to being in a small salon! however, it is fabulous! i have learned so much more been in a busy spa, than i did at college! you will absolutly love it! enjoy it! let us know how you get on! xx

Thank's for all your replies, I have more of an insight into how things will be carried out. I will keep you posted on my progress.x
