Hi

Please could I have your views on performing treatments on under 16s? I had a brow wax & upper lip wax booked in for this afternoon when I had a call from my clients Mum, she had booked these appointments for her 14 year old daughter - when I said I would need the mother to come in with her for parental consent, she said she had never had to do this before & cancelled - I am a new business(only been open 2 months) & cant afford to turn away clients & she did say that the salon down the street which has been there for years has never asked for this - am I being to picky? I am waiting for a call back from the guild as to their policy but I am impatient!! The same for skin testing tans? Had a walk in client on Saturday but I couldnt tan her because she hadnt had a skin test - I know she went down the street & had her tan done there!! What do you all do?

Thanks for your input in advance

.... and the last thing you need is a bad reputation or, heaven forbid, your face in the newspapers, after somebody had an allergic reaction, because you neglected to do a patch test.

Spray tan patch tests, when needed, are a requirement of your insurance policy. You will not be insured if you do not follow the correct procedures

Insurance companies have different policies on under 16's, so it's important to contact yours and see what they say;)

For the parental consent thing you were 100% right to ask her mother to be there not only for insurance purposes, but if you were to treat a minor without parental guidance your leaving yourself open to all sorts of possible allegations. If that was my daughter i would have be reassured that you asked me for consent and would have came to you rather the salon down the road.

Thanks for the input!

I know I'm right but I cant help thinking "well other salons do this & other salons don't do that & they have no problems!!" At least some other salons/ therapists do the same as me, so I do feel a bit better!

I had a similar problem to this at the start of the week, I contacted my insurance company and they advised me not to do treatments on minors at all. They said you would need to be 100% sure it was a parent/guardian they had brought with them otherwise you could be in trouble, they also said if you do a treatment on a minor they have up to 3 years and 4 months after their 18th birthday to put a claim in against you if something were to go wrong etc

I would have done exactly the same thing as you. Dont worry about losing customers, because of that, because your looking out for the interest of the clients, and they always come back :D

So does that also apply to pamper parties, nail paints and mini facials etc:confused:

... It does if your insurance company says you shouldn't;)
