Triple Tip Cutter

My tip cutter arrived today and I cant how to measure tips with it. The box says you can measure cuts to be short, med or long. Can anyone help me?

the length guide is on the plastic 'tip catcher' - this is the clear box that goes on your side of the blade and catches the cut section of tip...
so when you are looking down at the nail you can see the point at which it will cut.
