Hi

I'm very new to the biz, recently qualified in the application of gel extensions. Being new and lacking confidence, i use a soft gel.

I completed a full set on Friday (a friend), and she broke 2 quite quickly, she came to me tonight so that i could soak them off and re-apply a new extension.

I tried soaking the nails in acetone to no avail, then scored the surface and wrapped in acetone with foil.... still no change, i had to buff the gel off in the end.

I thought the whole point of a soft gel was that you could soak them off!

Am i missing something??

Which gel did you use?

Which system are you using?

It's a wholesale gel system 'Alan Roy'. not sure how common it is?

i tried that once and had a total nightmare with soaking it off, i found i could only buff it off, sorry i cant be of any more help!!

It's not a system I'm familiar with, but I would have thought the acetone and foil method would have worked. Did you break the seal of the gel first, by buffing it gently before applying the acetone?

Thank you for your replies

just makes me think .... what's the point? i might as well change to a hard gel, that will better enable me to create an apex. As with the soft gel, it can be quite difficult to get a beautiful shape (In my experience).

Don't get me wrong my nails aren't flat, just not as curved as i'd like, and i think this might help with the strength too.

Hi karen, yep i buffed the shine surface off and everything.

I've used the wrap method previously with little problem, it was just really frustrating tonight. I don't mind buffing the gel off, it's just that it's supposed to be soakable!! haha

ooooh nevermind, thank you all x
