Hi Guys,
I'm thinking of turning my garage in to a a salon, does anyone know if its ok to do this and if so, who do I let know, my council?
Thanks x

You may need to apply for change of purpose for the room. Why not email your local council planning department with an initial inquiry about your plans and they can advise you whether you will need to or not. If you have a mortgage you also need to let the mortgage company know. Also you will need to check with your house insurance.

This is what i want to do! let me know how it goes :)

Every council is different.
I had the council out to me when I first started up and he was telling me that I couldn't change the use of my room and use it solely for beauty that i needed to show it was still being use in the house so it's an computer room only to the council.
He was telling me that there has been only one person in my area that haas had permission to change her garage into a beauty salon and that's only because she has it as a play area for the kids.

HI guys thanks for the info, wezzie,
I will let you know lauran, hopefully all goes well!,
kazza, i'm a little confused! Can it be done poss if the room is used for somthing eles, like an office, playroom, games room, as this was an idea also for me, half & half?
Thanks again x

Sorry if I confused you.
You have more chance if the room is used as an office, computer room, as well as for your beauty.

Thanks, I will get started as soon as pos! x

I am looking into doing this as well, have checked i dont need planning to change the garage as long as the bricks and window match the rest of the front of the house, also have the ok from local council to work from a room in my house, now looking into wether i need builders regs to get the garage converted into a usuable room, have had a couple of quotes ranging from £6000 to £8000. but hoping to get my husband and friend who is a diy nut to do the work instead, let me know how it goes with you and good luck xx
