Hi all,

Just a reminder that the ‘early bird’ registration date for entering the UK Nail Tech competition in Birmingham is Friday 10th May. You’ll be able to enter for £35 per category (£15 off the full price), and save £5 per subsequent category if you enter more than one. You can also guarantee your place if you register before this date, as places are limited on the day.

The event takes place as part of BeautyUK on Sunday 19th & Monday 20th May at the NEC Birmingham. There are 11 categories, including Newcomers for anyone who hasn’t entered a pro nail comp before, plus 2 photographic and a Boxed Nail Art with the theme Chocolate (mmmm!).

• Top Tech Competition Nails
• Newcomer Tip & Overlay
• Salon Nail Challenge
• Top Tech Stiletto
• Freestyle Nail Art Challenge
• Student Tip & Overlay Challenge
• Top Tech Permanent Polish
• Top Tech Photographic Classic – theme Chocolate
• Top Tech Photographic Nail Art – theme Chocolate
• Top Tech Boxed Nail Art – theme Chocoolate
• Student Boxed Nail Art – theme Chocolate

There are a couple of rule changes that I should tell you about – firstly, the Top Tech Stiletto category has been change to completing one hand in the allotted time, rather than two which we thought might have been putting people off.

And if you’re entering the Top Tech Photographic Nail Art or Top Tech Photographic Classic Nail competitions, remember that your work shouldn’t have been seen anywhere else. Please do not post it on Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest prior to the competition and don’t enter images that you’ve used in other competitions or that you’ve been commissioned to create for nail brands or adverts. Our judges have eagle eyes and will know! Unfortunately we had to disqualify a number of photographic entries at the Scottish Nail Tech competition last month, which was a real shame.

Also worth bearing in mind that we are looking for image that can used as a cover shot on a magazine (so landscape images will incur a points deduction).
Get in touch if you’d like more information. You can download the Rules and Regs on the website at UK Nail Tech 2013

Worth using a professional photographer for the photographic categories and getting the correct license to use for the images - whether captured by a pro or not, especially if the images are going to be used as a cover. The person who released the shutter owns the copyright! Also a model release won't hurt, it's good practise.

Good luck :) x
