Ukraine, how safe is it?

has anyone been to ukraine?
i was wondering what it was like coz i have to go soon. i'm going alone and my hubby rekons its not a very safe place, is he worrying over nothing ?

seems a little bit dodgy, but i should be accompanied most of the time so i think i'll be o.k.
