I had an exam today in Indian head massage so turned up dressed in what I had been told too, what I usually massage in - a brown dress/tunic. Everyone else seemed to be in white. As i went into the room the examiner just stared at me and kept looking at the other candidates uniorm and then back at me. Finally she said, 'are you a body, or here for the exam?' and asked what on earth I was wearing!! I was nervous about the exam anyway but this made me feel really small and self consious. After the exam she said again, in front of everyone, 'I can't believe you turned up in a posh dress for an exam!' I just wondered if anyone else thought this was very poor practice or if I am just being a drama queen? It made me feel stupid infront of the other ladies on my course and put me on edge for the whole exam. I'm new to beauty therapy so this was not a nice introduction

oh dear cheltenham girl, I agree with you, it does not sound "professional" because beauty therapy is ultimately about professionalism. Was this an open exam where people from different salons/colleges attended the exam? I wish you luck and hope that this incident did not put you off enough to effect your results. I am sending you a big  in a bid to cheer you up.

Unless the course specified exactly what you should be wearing, then as long as it was clean, smart and practical I don't see the problem. If the examiner had a problem then she should have taken you quietly aside. We personally don't insist on uniforms as not everybody wants to wear one, but clean, smart clothing that is practical for the job is essential.

Our salon uniform is brown by the way (the cordcourt earth uniforms) and very nice it looks too! :green::hug:
