Hello,

Does anyone suffer from Urticaria? It's an unknow allergy, that can be quiet commom, and has a lot of symptoms, including itchy skin, Red weals on the skin, inflamation and a lot of pain?

I would be interested if anyone had?

Yup! It is otherwise known as hives and can have many different causes. I get them on my upper chest if I go in the sun, even with a high SPF on. A couple of years ago they were so bad, big, red, insanely itchy that I was given anti biotic cream for them.

Why do you need to know, is it for a client?

I had this irritating condition a few years ago, but only at night when I was in bed. It would start at my ankles and work its way up my legs and arms but nowhere else. I had to take antihistamine for quite a while until it subsided as quickly as it came.

At the time my doctors ran some liver function tests just to make sure that all was well in this area as my mum died from primary biliary cirrhosis and this was one of her first symptoms and they were unsure if the pbc was hereditary.

This is a good picture and shows what happens to my skin when I'm in the sun.

Yes I have heard of this and had it....unfortunately!! Itchy, burning and lumpy for days (i even cried!!) One shot of antihisthimine from GP an it all disappeared like magic. I had it all over my legs and back of my arms but it never came back again. Its one of those mystery things!! xx

yes I can get a mild form of it if I go out into the sun too.
antihistamines is what I would recommend.
aloe vera gel helps to soothe.

aka prickly heat, I've tried everything going to stop it coming but nothing works.
I have given up going abroad because of it. I get it in this country if I get more than two days sun in a row, which is very rare over here so I'm usually ok.

Well I had to be different didn't I?

Mine comes up exactly like the pic - but mine happens when I am exposed to cold. Say - swimming in an outdoor pool. Walking out in the cold. It effects my fattier parts and when it takes proper hold - I can't bend my knees.
A bit of warmth - and its gone.

And I never had this happen till I had a blood transfusion after giving birth - and I read somewhere that this can be passed on through blood. But I can live with it - its not life threatening.

Anyone else experience this through cold?

Hives, yes. I used to get them as a child when it got really cold outside, so I would be the one kid bundled up with only my eyes showing cos otherwise I was a hive infested itching, burning mess. I've only got them once since, and that was when I was given Morphine after I had a c-section with my middle daughter - obviously an allergic reaction.

As long as I stay away from arctic cold and morphine I'm sweet. :)

My dad gets this instantly if he touches cut grass.

Well I had a severe case of this when pregnant (the consultant called it urticaria of pregnancy - allergic to pregnancy levels of hormones etc lol) it started when I reached 5 months and I couldn't wear clothes sleep go out it was bad! spent the last 4 months in and out of a cold shower and wearing a cotton sheet to keep my skin cool I think it was worse as my son was born June I remember it being a bit of a hot early summer, of course the doc wouldn't give me any medication to take then (my son is now 16) until the last 3 weeks when I was prescribed phenergan, fortunately I went into labour 2 weeks early and as soon as he was born it instantly went away! They said I would get it in any future pregnancy`s but I didn't get it when carrying my daughter.

Thanks all for your input and comments.

Basically, I suffer really badly with it. Have seen doctors on numerous occasions, have seen Dermatologists, even a specialist in skin, have had a skin biopsy and was on a high dose of steriods for just over 3 months... (My 1st time of having this was April 2006) and have had it come back every couple of months since then.

No one seems to be able to give me anything and it reallt gets me down, as I worry about it, being a health issue.

It is always worse on my feet & hands, and have read about "pressure" and "heat" urticaria and feel I will need to diagnose myself with this.

I have 2 shopping bags full of tablets and end up with sleeping tablets to help me sleep - Night time is the worse time.

The picture is quite simialr to how it looks, but I was head to toe with "Weals" and looked like bleach spills all over my skin. Everything gets swollen.

Not quite sure what to do now. I have even changed my doctors surgery, and that was from when I was born and was my doctor's for 22 years. My new doctor doesn't seem to want to do much either.

Just getting down about it and I am not "Diagnosed" and given medication to treat it, just to help when I get it, and even then it doesn't work. Stress seems to trigger it quite badly, and when you woory about it, catch 22 situation.
