Hi all

Having got the info that I needed about using coloured acrylic powder, I now need to find out more about using gel. In the not too distant future I plan to do a gel nail building course but in the meantime am I right in thinking that I can use coloured gel as an overlay like nail polish? How do I go about it, what do I need and can it be applied over the natural nail? Or over acrylic?

thanks for reading, you guys are a mine of info! :green:

ps please dont let the system i am using put you off replying, I am currently trialling more well known systems such as Nfu oh

Any help much appreciated, I don't want to make expensive mistakes buying the wrong stuff

Have you had any previous training as you havent mentioned anything on your profile?

Sorry looked at my profile and realised it was a bit scant so now updated. I trained with a company called FS UK (now called Get Gorgeous nails)in Madeley, Shropshire using a system called Zetek, not so well known nationally, but assessors vtct recog and meets insurance reqs. Did courses in L&P and nail art. Now doing a VTCT cert in Nail Treatments (mani/pedi) which finishes in Feb.
I have decided I want to use a different system now hence trying out Nfu oh.

you can apply colored gel like polish, use a thin layer of clear gel as your base coat, be sure to cap the free edge with gel and cure. then apply color in thin, even coats, curing between layers without cleansing. then finish with a gel topcoat. you can also apply it over acrylic the samw way but you can skip the clear gel base layer. as always, make sure you follow the manufacturers directions regarding uv light, curing time, prep ect.

Thanks very much for your reply, exactly the kind of information that I needed. Is there one system that is better for this type of application?

if you are using it over natural nails, a soak off gel will perform better as itm has more flexibility and wont crack as the natural nail flexes.

Sorry Susan, why is this?? I use Brisa gel for NNO, which is a buff off gel and it has never cracked, neither did NSI balance when i was using it??

in agreement with Susan on this one :)

did you also know you can combine soak off as a base & buff off colours without chipping?
