Hi

I am new to doing acrylic and gel nails, I have been practicing on my family and its taking me around 3-4 hours to complete a full set of acrylic usually with two coats of colour then top coat of uv gel.

I use odorless powder and liquid (anyone with any positive and negative feedback on this system, apart from not stinking would be appreciated) today I did my usual two coats of nail varnish over the acrylic then top coat uv and stuck it under my lamp for 2 mins then attempted to wipe off the sticky coat with gelish cleanse. This made the nails look awful, the top coat went all funny and did not give a smooth finish at all.

I cant understand what went wrong as I have done the same routine before and this has never happened! anyone have any ideas?

Also on my speed, I have changed from using well tips to non blending tips to shed some time off however, I am still taking far too long and am starting to really loose any confidence I had.

Your time will speed up naturally, what is it you spend the most on?

Also I didn't think uv top coat was meant for going over regular polish as it would most likely still be drying?

Yes maybe my polish was not dry enough before applying the uv top coat. I did learn it was ok though to put uv top coat on regular polish.

I think its shaping the tips as many of my family members have wanted long oval shapes that seem to take me a while to perfect. I was thinking of training to use an electric nail file to speed up the time.

If you are just starting out, that is normal to be taking so long to do a full set of acrylics. As for blending tips and shaping the nails, this won't be what takes the most time so don't cut corners by changing tips or switching to an e file, the more you practice the quicker you will get. Nails is all about practice, it's certainly not something you are brilliant at straight away. As for the polish not going right after it had been in the lamp, that would be the regular polish not being dry, I tried it once on my own nails and waited till the next day to do the uv top coat as it all wrinkled the first time. Just keep at it and you'll pick up speed and tips to help you cut down your times 😊

Thank you for your reply. Do you think using coloured gel on top of acrylic and curing between coats would be better than using polish (more costly tho) Or does anyone know of any freeze product to use on normal nail varnish to speed up the drying ?
with regards to my speed I will keep practicing :)

Hi I used a CCO uv top coat and a 36 watt uv lamp

Who are you doing a course with?
