As you know, I'm in the middle of choosing a skin care range and suddenly had a thought...

I've been swaying between Algologie and Moor Spa and noticed one of the ingredients in one of the Algologie products is fish oil. Which techinically means it's not suitable for vegetarians (or vegans)

Has anyone ever asked you whether the skin care range you are using is suitable for vegetarians?

Hi, I can't say that i've ever been asked that question. I would guess it would depend on the area you're in, ie whether it is an 'organic' or 'hippy' clientel you have locally. I'm guessing that if you were in a place like Byron Bay (here in oz) you would get that question but in many areas I would say that a more likely question would be is the product 'natural'?

Yes. Natural does seem the buzz word of the moment. I've asked clients their view on parabens or mineral oils and most haven't a clue what I'm talking about.

A couple of my friend are vegetarians and I thought they may not want a facial if the products contained animal/fish derived products

Anyone else?

Algoloie is not suitable for vegetarians due to the fish oil and also there is other an animal by product in one of the main ingredients for facials

I have been asked this in the past, when I was using Thalgo products. I can't remember what the extract was now (Something fishy as well, I think!), but it was only in a couple of products.
I'm sure as long as you know your ingredients you will be ok. If the fish oil is only in a couple of products, can you not just use something different on that particular client? With thalgo the range of products was large enough that I could do this without affecting the quality of the treatment for the clients...I don't know this range though, so i'm just suggesting! :)

You would be suprised how many clients are worried about vegan products, how ethical the company or salon is...I had a few people who wouldn't buy certain products from me because the packaging didn't categorically state it was recyclable...never mind what the product was for!! Clients will always find a way to suprise you!

Thank you for all your replies

I do like the Algologie products and it is only one or two products which contain animal/fish oils. I'll just find something to use instead if someone ever asked me!
