Hi im
Looking at changing my lifestyle and working from home hairdressing in the uk.
I’ve got a suitable room . Can anybody tell me the best way regarding my local council eg what do I tell them?
My insurance? Any good sites . I contacted Coversure but they said they would need to insure the whole house which sounds messy as I want to leave that with my husband and me Insure my business.
Any advice gratefully received

If you have a mortgage on your house, you’ll need to have permission from your mortgage lender to run a business from any part of the premises. If you rent, you will need to obtain permission from your landlord before setting up in business.

Ideally, you need to purchase public liability insurance as a minimum but your existing buildings/contents insurer will also need to be aware of your intention to run a business from part of your home and it could affect your premiums.
You might view your business as a separate entity to living in your home but insurance wise, having members of the general public traipsing around your property will clearly increase the risk of theft or accidental damage occurring, just for starters.

You may need to obtain planning permission and/or a licence to operate, depending on your local council as some local authorities have additional bye laws that you have to comply with.
