Just wanted opinions on weather I should go to get my VTCT in nails, all my training I've done has been product based, Creative etc.

Hi,

This is just my opinion, so please bear with me

I did my VTCT in Mani / Pedi / Depilation etc, and didn't think much of the Mani/Pedi training.

I am also Creative trained and knew a lot of the training they were giving for the VTCT was a lot of bunkom (sp?), but continued with the training and did their assessments the way they wanted us to do it, just to pass, even though I didn't agree with it.

As it's only a 10 week course (from memory), I don't see any harm in getting the qualifications, especially as you are already Creative trained. Chances are, you'll know more than your tutor or maybe it was just me who had a crap one.

However, as for the nail enhancement VTCT, I flat out refused to do the course as our tutor had some very dark age ideas and would not listen to anyone who contradicted her or showed her the error of her ways. Example, she strongly believed that you had to "rough of the nail plate" to ensure the product adhered correctly.

When I told her that I didn't agree with her, and that just simple thorough prep and a good product would be enough, she told me I didn't know what I was talking about !! Like I said, I did my Creative training prior to that and knew SHE didn't know what SHE was talking about.

Getting the qual certainly won't do any harm, seeing as you already have had some decent education

All my training has been with companies so far, but I still wanted an official government stamped seal of approval qualification, so I'm doing the VTCT. In terms of skill, level 2 it isn't teaching me anything I don't already know but it makes you go over the anatomy and physiology etc to a greater degree. I think if you have the opportunity, it's a good thing to have this piece of paper under your belt. :)

I'm currently doing VTCT manicure and pedicure and don't know about the practical side and how it compares so not offering advice but I know that in terms of nail structure, skin, diseases and disorders etc., I would struggle to take all that in in a short period of time. Depends on how you learn best I guess.. I need to be able to research and read and write about stuff like that to take it in so I guess it's a good way for me for this part of the course.

I have done the VTCT in mani and pedi and it was brilliant, my tutor had been in the business 20years and she was great. The tutor I have now for nail technology is just as good. I think it does depend on the tutor you get. As to how well you are taught, my tutor is teaching me acrylics and gels, we are using creative for the acrylics and NSI for gels. My tutor has also done her training with creative, so it sounds like I have been lucky.

I just read about the VTCT training and have to agree its not the best. When i decided to do nails it seemed like a good idea as I didn't know any better, but after doing the gel course with them have decided to do my training through someone like creative. We were taught about 'roughing the nail up' and again I just presumed this was right! What should I be doing instead? I normally do cuticle work, buff nail with a 240 grit file, then sanitise then put nail/gel on. Sorry for going off on a tangent but want to make sure i'm doing my best

i've done magnetic training and will be doing a mani pedi at college 12 weeks, course
i've got a feeling it's going to be old fashioned judging by peeps that have done it in the past. but if u want the qualification , you've got to go for it.
thg:cry:

I think alot has to do with the tutor, I am doing VTCT gels and acrylics and I have not been told to rough up the nail. I also did the manicure and pedicure course as well and again the tutor was very good, she made sure that our hygiene was top notch and went through everything to make sure we did it right.

" rough up the natural nail" is not a term i would ever use when teaching!!!! try " remove surface shine instead" doesnt sound like like you are going in for a beating with the nail file!!! 240 grit is ideal...

That is what my tutor says as well and she has also done creative training as well. I think that is why we are doing creative in acrylics and NSI in the gels.

excellent Choices!!! good acrylic good gel.. sometimes colleges are on a" budget" and the best stuff aint always available.. but mannn you got some goodies!!!

Yeah I know, when I did the manicure and pedicure course I had creative products. I really like the creative products and would love to do a course with them but worry about how much it will cost. I know it will be worth it but at the moment I am not in business and with five children and a disabled husband have to count the pennies.
