Hi my client called in yesterday complaining she had water under her acrylic nails, I had a look for her and could see why she thought it was water as when you pressed on the nail there looked like water movement underneath but there was no lifting? does anyone know what this could be? Jules

This sounds like pocket lifting where there is an area of lifting in the middle but the rest of the enhancement is secure.
It can be caused by a few things the wrong mix ratio, not removing previous lifting properly and also the enhancement being to thick.

Working with too wet a mix,the shrinkage may build up enough pressure to cause the enhancement to literally pop from the nail plate causing a pocket of lifting.

What action should be done when this arises and how do I explain to the client what is actually happening without losing her as she has already had one pop off?

I see on your profile you use CND L&P were you trained by CND?
What I would suggest is you contact your Educator and ask them about maybe doing a Tips and Troubleshooting class this will help with any problems you might be getting

Pocket lift can also happen from the top surface of the nail getting a good whollop (instead of catching the edge, something hits on top straigh on. Like closing it in a drawer or smacking it with a hammer like I did LOL). Happened to me and hurt like a bugger. I thought "oh yayy, my nail didn't break"
Looked the next day... nice bit of pocket lift :irked:

can anybody help me to explain this away to my client without loosing her as I dont know what to tell her

You need her to come back and remove the product and replace with new.
You have already been advised by Karen and Victoria how it occurs and also what you should do about it.
Also as Karen advised go to your CND educator for some tips and troubleshooting training.
I find it odd if you are CND trained that you dont know what pocket lifting is.
It would also help if you filled in your profile details a bit more.
This isnt said to be harsh but we do have some people who say they are trained by certain companies but in reality have had no training and buy their products from ebay with no idea how to apply or use the products properly.
This is a professional forum and advise is giving willingly by those of us who have spent small fortunes on our educations, so if people come along and ask questions about things they are taught in training it tends to set alarm bells ringing.
Im not saying that this is the case with yourself, but if you would like help and advise it does help if you do your part and fill in more details on your profile.

I would just say it how it is. Say these things can happen, due to a bang or something of the like to the nail, or even due to the acrylic being a slightly incorrect ratio for your nail. (she wont necessarily know what you mean when you say this), but its technically true and you will sound like you know what your talking about-giving her confidence to stay with you and sort the nail out and stop this happening again.

Thanks for your advise this is a real help. I have been working in a salon for 12 months and was trained at CND but it is the first time it has happened since the academy training.
