Can someone explain all the different types of wax please?

Creme wax? Hot film wax? Gel wax?

Oh and do you use strips or what?

thanks

Did your training not cover this?

We have only just started but they never really mentioned them!

Hi camilla I ve just started with wax....Which course did you do?

We we taught about all the different waxes and what does what...& how.

I would write a list of questions you dont feel have been covered & ask your tutor to advise.

It maybe that you are not that far ahead yet.

xx

I'm at a private college in edinurgh, we only get taught warm and hard wax

Crikey - what course is it? I can't believe they don't at least give you the different types of wax! I would push your tutor for that info as it is fairly key!

The link that Jen posted is a good one. You'll pick up some good info on that. I'd also do a good search in Skin Geek - when I trained in waxing, I spent hours in there soaking up all the info!

Hi, understand your dilemma. I graduated from Mary Reid with the same information. Its amazing what you can read up on and since setting up my own business I do tend to still use the creme tea tree wax. The therapists on this site are such a help so keep asking questions! Good luck with the course.

Here is my breakdown:

There are 2 basic styles of wax: one you remove with strips and one you peel off. In the UK, the one you peel off can be referred to as 'Hot Wax or Film Wax'. Both styles come in cold, warm and hot temperatures. Any wax presented in a roll on is going to be the kind you remove with strips.

I like to keep the definations down to 2 exactly:

Hard Wax - the kind you peel off

Soft Wax - the kind you put on thin and remove with strips.

My preference is to use Hard Wax on Face, Underarms, Bikini/Brazilians. I think this style of wax is stronger, removes hair better and does not stick to the skin, making it best for delicate areas.

Soft Wax is for Arms, Legs, Back and Chest. Can be applied very thin to large areas and removed with strips.

No matter the style or brand, they all remove hair from the root, you just have to learn how to master the brand of your choice. Certainly there are differences from label to label, but they all work.

I can understand that not all types of wax are taught at college as they're so old fashioned. We need to move with the times......we're not still waxing like the Egyptians did thousands of years ago.

I agree with Lori....just two kinds of wax. xxx
