I've just had a friend in for a bikini wax (sugar). She has had it done with me before with no problems. She is taking medication for an over active thyroid. I didn't ask her what the medication was. She bruised a little bit. I know her skin was stretched properly and my angle of removal was fine. Should I have given her a better consultation at the start. I feel bad about this.

You should always ask if they're on any medication. I had a lady today and I asked her that question and she said she wasn't. She bruised straight away and I could tell it was unusual and I knew it wasn't anything I'd done. I said 'You sure you're not taking any medication?' Her reply was 'Oh crap! Yes, I forgot that I'm just finishing a course'.

We're not doctors but if you always ask, you'll find with experience that you'll get to understand why things happen. xxx

Thanks for your reply Kim. I knew before the treatment that she was on new medication for her condition but not the exact name of it. I don't think the bruising was related to the medication on further thought, although her skin may have been abit more sensitive, I think it was due to a new product I'm using, it isn't very good. It's a Gigi sugar wax and it is completely different to the other sugar brands I have used. I think it was probably a lot stickier than the usual one I use and pulled the skin more. My consultations are usually really thorough for new clients/treatments, I'm not too sure of how much of a consultation you need to give for regular clients, It's usually just a quick check to make sure their last visit was fine and no problems inbetween. I think this was a bit of a wakeup call to just be a little bit more thorough.

Don't worry. The important thing is that you care about your clients. xxx
