So I've been waxing and tinting this girls eyebrows for years, then all of a sudden she got badly grazed from the wax, I found out since that she had been using retinol eye cream, that she didn't think to mention to me. It's been 6mths now since this has happened and she wants to try again today, she's stopped using the retinol eyecream now, do yoh think it'l be OK to wax??? Please help, I'm beginning to panic

Retinol is the chemical name for vitamin A, a much milder form of a specialist medication Acutane/Isotretinoin. Yet can have a lot of the same affects. I would make sure that she had ceased use within at least 6 months before attempting to wax. Even with Retionol/Vitamin A. Make sure she signs a waiver, and also states she has ceased use within 6 months or your insurance won't be happy. If unsure and it was prescribed by a doctor, get them to write a letter confirming permission. Clients lie all the time. Get it in writing from her!!!

Hope this helps

Do a patch test on the outer corner of the eye brow and wait 48 hours. Depending on her skin it may be very thin and soft. Mine is like that and I have pigmentation from brow waxing now. Not every client is suitable for waxing.

My advice is to learn threading. Take your time and bring it into your waxing treatments so that you get lots of practise. Progressively build your skill and confidence - Thread toes and missed hairs on legs when waxing; then thread missed waxed chin hairs. Then go over a waxed lip with thread to improve the result. Finally start brow threading - begin by threading between the eye brows, before waxing the brow as usual. Then do between the brows and take off the fluffy hairs above the brow before waxing. Then do the outer corners of the brows just leaving the under brow area to be waxed.

When you feel ready to thread around the brows you will already be confidently threading the sides of the face, the lip and chin and if you use a bit of wax your clients will really appreciate your care and attention to detail and the good final result achieved so comfortably.

I started threading on clients after 6 weeks home practise but it took me 6 months to feel proficient. I learned to hold the thread in my mouth but when we reopened after lockdown I had to relearn to hold the thread with my fingers. My client arrived imagining that they were going to get their usual threading and found me struggling with fogged up glasses behind a visor so I couldn’t even see properly and it was horribly stressful but I managed using the method above.

I hope this helps.
