hi.

i've got a hair and beauty salon, and have a beauty therpaist working with me. last night she asked if she could practise a brazilian on me, as she didn't feel confident enough. So ilet her try today, I've been getting waxed (brazilian or hollywood) for about 4years so although im not a waxer i said i could help her if she was struggling. She applied the wax, and it all stuck to the hair. I had trimmed the hair but it was still sticking. She was using strip wax so i said to her to go get non strip wax, as she has been trained in that too. The non strip wax didn't stick to the hair, but it wouldn't come off in the strip, was just coming off in wee lumps. i thought the prob with the non strip wax was that she wasn't leaving enough wax at the bottom of the piece to get a bit to pull iykwim? We are both stumped and her confidence is taking a bashing.does anyone have any advice? my gut instinct is she can manage if it was a regrowth but because i haven't been waxed in a while and the girl she had in yesterday had never been waxed that the hair may be too long or too thick or something? I'mbooking her in with Kim Lawless but thats not til mid November. Thanks in advance xxx

I certainly think non strip wax is an art - completly different from strip wax!

I would say keep her on the basics and practice that first to build her confidence before she goes on kims course, then Kim will give her the confidence she needs.

As to your waxing dilemma It may be the wax wasn't applied correctly and then the oils on your skin from this may have prevented the strip wax sticking.

She says she has used hard wax as well as creme wax...but I think we'll just keep practising on me and get her a couple of models too to keep her going til she goes to Kim. How should the wax be applied to be applied correctly? My only thought at the time was she maybe wasn't pressing down hard enough on the strip before pulling it off. Thanks for the help :S

Most non strip/hard waxes can be applied differently. I personally am not trained in hard wax. Got the Berins kit but haven't got to grips with it really. The berins is quite elastic and pliable whereas others I have had a play with were quite brittle and had to be applied back and forth in a figure 8, or just against hair growth then with hair growth before pulling off to grip the hair.

If you used a light oil though pre non strip/hard wax which is what I beleive your supposed to do with most systems then I would say this is why the warm wax may not have clung to the hair/wax strip.

Its hard to say without seeing what she is or isnt doing wrong and if your not trained in hard wax then it may be a case of the blind leading the blind and she will pick up either bad habits or wrong techniques before her proper training.

If shes not proficient in Warm strip waxing on simple bikinis then get her confident in this area first before training with kim. If the areas dry and clean then the wax will come off easily enough.

She can wax a bikini line with a warm/strip wax no problem at all. Its just doing brazilian/hollywood she is struggling with. at the mo she is applying strip wax with a spatula going with the growth of the hair, not against it. on longer/thicker hair it is just leaving the wax on the hair in a clump! only pre wax cleanser applied and its not left damp before waxing, it has dried in. xx

With the warm wax you can try cutting the strip in half longways, so it is thinner. It's really good for beginners especially,i think because its thinner you are definitely pressing it down properly.

Make sure she presses down firmly. Pulls off quickly and close (parallel) to the skin.

There is a great dvd called "the whole ball of wax" which has been making the rounds on here. You need to get hold of Angelina (thats her screen name) to put your name on the list.

It sounds like she might be putting the hot wax on too thin or maybe the edges are too thin, which could be why its breaking. Make sure it has completely solidified too.

Thanks for the strip advice. She is trained and has experince but her strong point is nails and tan and we've been getting a lot fo waxing requests...glad she said to me she didn't feel so good about doing it before we had any real disasters! :) I will need to track down this dvd...thanks a lot.xxx

If you have her in with Kim in november not long to go anyway and to be honest i think i would just let her get on with what she can do so nothing too intimate until she has done her training and got her certificate.

Yeah, I called Kim to arrange and I know she is busy so when I hear back we should have her booked in. I wish i was going, I love all this sort of thing!!! she is good at all other waxing, just needs a bit more practise and confidence boost, and a good education on non strip wax will be great too :D thanks evryone for the help xxx

Thank you Zoe :) xxx

Hi doll. I've booked her in from your message (need her name)......was too late to call you by the time I got home, so speak tomorrow.

Ok, back to your problem. Dump the strip wax for starters.

Non strip wax.......sounds as though she didn't push the wax right into the skin and but just the hair. Also, it sounds as though there were thick bits and gaps in the wax. If the wax is applied in an even strip, there shouldn't be any problem. It was way too thin.

If you like, I'll speak to her or you before her training to see if I can help her through it until then. It's just the application I know. I'll call you over the weekend. xxx

Hi Kim, it's really refreshing to read about an employer supporting their staff as much as you have and sending on a course to sort out any problems. Well done you:hug:
