Hi,

I have been waxing for a few years now and have never had a client have anything more than a 'normal' reaction, until last week.

I did a full leg wax on a lady that hadn't had any waxing done for over 4 years.

The wax went fine, I did what i normally do; cleanse, talc lightly, apply wax (warm wax), remove with taught skin etc. When i did her calves some big red blotches appeared, she said they weren't painful. I gave her some aloe vera to take away.

She came in today for an eyebrow shape and i of course asked her how her legs were, she said that evening they looked burned but in the morning they looked bruised.

I had a look at her legs and they did look slightly bruised still, and she had patches of dry skin.

She said that the wax wasn't too hot at the time, i test the temperature at the start and also on the client and it wasn't too hot as far as i was aware. She also said it didn't hurt when i was waxing, well, not more than you'd normall expect. The wax came off cleanly and without any tugging so i am slightly baffled as to what has caused this reaction.

My client was very kind about it, said it wasn't my fault and 'its just one of them things' but thats not good enough for me! I need to know what i've done wrong so it doesn't happen again.

Any ideas much appreciated,

Thanks,

Sarah x

Could she have had an allergic reaction to the wax? I've had a client that was allergic to Euroblond before, but not the Cristal Ocean as its hypoallergenic.

Hmm i don't know, obviously that has crossed my mind but she did have a full leg wax so i presumed the blotching wouldn't have just been concentraited to her calves?

Try using a light smear of oil under your wax rather than talc, this may help.

Did you check whether your lady was on any new meds?
Did you go over any area more than once ?
was wax temperature was too high for a second application?
Did you hold the skin firmly on application and removal?

Hi Joe90

she said she wasn't taking any medication and I didn't go over more than once, her hair was quite long and not very much of it to be honest so was easy to remove, this is what has baffled me really as it was such a quick and easy wax.

I will give some oil a try with her next time and maybe invest in a better wax.

Any recommendations for wax and oil?

Thanks,

Hi Gee,

Personally I would recommend Berins Ease for legs and if you are qualified Berins Blue for bikini face and underarm. I would cleanse the legs with Berins Lavender Lotion and then apply Berins Jasmine oil before applying wax.

Contact Zo Zo on here, she is the Berins distributor in the UK.

Forgot to add to my previous post, make sure that you firmly rub the strip onto the leg, you don't have to rub up and down just once is sufficient but it must be firm. I will be running some troubleshooting session with Berins in the near future so let me know if you want to attend. BTW I am certified by Pro Beauty and ABT and endorsed by Lori Nestore for wax courses in the UK.

Thanks for that Joe90, I'll have a look at Berins :)

Gee.......this isn't about brands so I wouldn't suggest that you change brands at this stage. If your client is sensitive to the wax, then use ANY hypoallergenic wax that suits your purse.

Also, from one pro to another, I would suggest that you don't mention anything such as lumps and redness etc until they do. The fact that she came back for her brows shows what a bloody good waxer you are. Have confidence in your ability and as long as there wasn't anything like a tear or burn, just let it be as you'll only draw attention to things that your clients may not have given a thought to. xxx

Thanks Kim, your comment is very much appreciated.
