I have just joined up for a vista print website on the premium package. I have only done a few pages so far if you want to take a peek, www.beautique-nails.co.uk I just wondered how I become searchable on google etc? It says they will automatically add me to google but when I search for myself I cant find me :( any ideas?

It's can take months- or days. Theres no hard and fast rules (well- ones that Google make us aware of) with search engines. But if I might say, you're starting at something of a disadvantage with a Vistaprint website as they don't give you the flexibility to do your own search engineering.

On a wider note- I find it curious why people expect search engines to work miracles for them. You wouldn't open a shop, sit on a chair and expect people to come to you.

Market the site, online and offline and be pro-active with it! you simply CAN'T rely on search engines to do the work for you.

Thanks for your reply :o I dont expect miracles at all from a website and wont be relying soley on it, Iv just not got a computer/technology head on my shoulders and wondered if there was something I was supposed to do before it showed up. I'll make sure it is marketed well though! Thanks! :D

Hiya- well- thats exactly what im saying..you dont really need a computer head! :D Using traditional marketing methods to promote the site work very well in conjunction with the fancy-pants techie stuff- which will come in time im sure.

With regards to it turning up..its just a matter of time. Which page it will be on...depends on what you're searching for! :)

Spotted a typo on special offers you've put of instead of off HTH x

Lovely website.:D
The only main thing I can see needs changing is you use "me", "I" & "us"???
You say on "the contact us" page contact "me", who is "me"?
How many nail techs working at Beautique Nails? x

first impressions mean everything. check over spelling and gramma and make sure it looks professional - nice, same font and as for what you asked if you are working alone just say 'me' or 'i'. no point in confusing potential clients with 'we' and then saying 'i'. x

I too am in the same position, I've created a website but it's not showing up on Google. I have a teeth whitening clinic and there is only one real competitor in my area and he comes up as the first business on Google search whereas I'm no-where to be found.

I've tried the traditional methods of marketing and so far word of mouth has been best but it's not enough to keep me going. I've sent out flyers and cards and just paid a lot of money for a really nice full colour ad in a prime position in the local paper which didnt generate one lead. I've done a bit of marketing research which is telling me that most prospective clients would search for the service and area on Google so feel if I could get this right then I'd be on my way. Problem is, despite loads of great info, I'm clearly not technical and I'm doing something wrong.

Please let me know if you achieve your place on google and if so how you did it - I'll do the same.

Good luck!

Hi

I've been told that you need to edit the info on websites on a weekly/daily basis for google and other search engines to even notice you.

One way of doing it - is to add a blog on the webiste and update that, or add facebook feed.

Keep changing it ... improving it and google will soon say WOW this website is productive - let's divert traffic that way to have a look at it.

My husband is working on that at the moment in time, with my website.

"Content is king"

Content is VERY important for search engine placement. Without original text content, most search engines will be unable to match search terms to the content of a site.

If you've got good, useful content (explaining what you do, how you do it and where you are) you're killing two birds with one stone- you're creating a useful site AND creating context for search engines to correctly categorise you.

Definatly go for "me" & "I" It will look so much better as otherwise it is misleading, it reads as though there is a team of staff.
It needs to be very clear to clients, for example;
"Hello & welcome to ****, my name is Melanie, I rent a nail desk in or I work within ***** salon"
By introducing yourself it makes it more personal as well I think.
I rent a beauty room within a sunbed shop, you can check my website out to see how I worded mine if it helps :D
