Well less tips can be used with a little bit more versitility....They allow you to put them either further down towards the cuticle or up further on the free edge. I like them because when I am doing Pink and Whites I can move them up further on the nail going towards the free edge and then you won't have a lot of white and a little pink. I use the ledge that the tip creates to provide me with a guide to place my white. Just make sure you fit any tip from side wall to side wall.
I make all my tip 'well less' tips, i.e. with a tiny contact area.
This allows me to put the tip on at the correct angle for both the upper and lower arch. Plus it leaves more exposed nail plate for the overlay to bond to (a much stronger bond than a tip and nail plate)
I would always blend (unless using an opaque powder) which is much quicker and would never use the 'ledge' as a guide for the smile line because it has the wrong placement as it is on the nail plate.
