Hello,

I’m new to copper hair.. I have a client that’s now wanting me to do her colour too! She likes the vibrant coppers and likes the multi tonal look (first few pics).

im just wondering how I would achieve something like this on her already coloured golden/copper hair? I’ll attach a close upwhich shows her natural cool root of around a base 6.

I’m thinking of maybe adding some lighter bleach pieces throughout and maybe something along the lines of a 7/4 colour touch.. Maybe something different for the root as we don’t want it to glow?

would the colour work if I was to apply a global colour over the top of this colour (if I didn’t add highlights)? Would it just be less multi tonal and more flat?

Would you suggest lots of highlights so that I Can I achieve the vibrancy?

Not too sure on which route to take or colour choice.. What do you suggest?

Thanks in advance :)

Do you have magma?

Do you have magma?
No, not at the moment. I couldn’t get it from the wholesaler I use. But I’m happy to buy it if it’s going to get the results!

which would you recommend? X

If not are you willing to use a different brand?
Colorissimo HLC is an amazing high lift copper, that you could use as highlights and then put your chosen wella base inbetween :)

I’ve only skin tester for wella unfortunately😬
Do they have anything similar? Or maybe magma like you said?

Thanks again! X

Well magma is a good choice, but thinking about it, it's red not copper. A better option might actually be to use bleach for the highlights and put a copper base one the same time. Rinse and apply colour touch relights /34 instead :)

Okay perfect, thank you! Would you recommend Doing a full head of highlights?

Then What would you suggest for the root and pull through/base colour? I’m not familiar at all with coppers at all. Would love to aim for something similar to the second picture or the last picture with some lighter pieces throughout!

would a 7/4 work? I know I have to encounter the natural undertone too.. so would it maybe come out like a 7/34 though?
Thank you again! ☺️

I think a full head is probably a waste. I'd probably just do a halo section of highlights maybe only bleach + 3% add your base inbetween of colour touch 7/4 with 4% leave to process for the 20 mins and then tone the highlights with /34 relights.

Perfect!
What do you mean by halo section?
And would you choose 7/4 to being the closest to those images? That was my first guess but I’ve not done anything like this before!
Thank you so much! ☺️

So a halo section would be the parting area, too of the crown and a few on the sides. It's usually done on an angle and you follow the shape of the head until you create a halo of foils essentially.. I'll see if I can find a picture.
As for the colour touch, I think 7/4 would be a good choice, if not 7/43 for sure. It depends if you want a more red copper, or proper copper? 😂

Okay, so is a halo section different to a t-section would you say?

Im not too sure, I think proper copper! Would you say those goal photos are more of a proper copper or a red copper? 🙈

Yeah slightly. If you're not sure mix the 2 if you them. If not opt for the 7/43 if the client wants it richer opt for 7/4 next time.

This is the kind of thing I was thinking of, but you conitibe the diagonal slices right the way round the head to create a halo.

Okay thank you! So I’m thinking of using 1.9% for the root and 4% for the ends to prevent the roots going a little glowy..

Or could I add base 7/0 into the root colour to prevent this?

Thanks again!

Either will work :)

Thank you!
When doing the toner if her natural root lifts better than the rest would I add some base into the relights /34?

Ideally we don’t want it to look glowy/ stripey

thanks again☺️ X

You can't mix the relights with anything other than another relights shade. Maybe you could use 8/43 instead and that way if you need to, you can deepen it down.

Something was telling me that you couldn’t do that, but not used the relights yet. Perfect, I will do that☺️ I don’t think shes wanting the lightness too high up and is wanting it quite soft/subtle!
Thanks again! X

If she wants it really subtle you could just do the highlights and then colour it all with a mix of 7/4+ 7/43 :) because the highlights will be slightly lighter and brighter anyway. Sorry I feel like I keep giving you different methods 🙈 I hope its not confusing.
