Hello ladies, sorry if this is not meant to be here. (Just downloaded the app so my technology skills are not quite tip top!) and be warned it is a long one.

Here goes, I'm qualified in Acrylics, spray tanning & gel polish. So r Christmas my hubby decides to send me away on a semi permanent lash course. We live in Germany (army!) so I had to organist travel. I was a bit concerned with the course organization but I couldn't cancel. Hubby had paid about £230 including the kit.

So I've flown & booked a hotel. I arrive to the course, which is in the lady's house. The owner of the company wasn't present as she was on holiday so another lady was teaching.

She openly admitted that she had only trained (no longer than 12 months ago!) and that she was the owners worst student as she couldn't do it.

The course went like this...Go trough the manual that was sent, contraindications, health & safety & application. The work place wasn't at all salon like, it was quite messy if I'm honest.

Then we had a little practice on a training head, the 4 of us had to share. Then we were told & shown how to load our lashes on tape which we then went on to use on each other. We did 2 hours each on fellow student model. I have short straight lashes & the poor girl could only get 4 on me in 3 hours. Was not told to use a different lash (I need L curl!) was not explained that different lashes need different sizes & curls. We did not do a full set; then we had to help clean up her house!

So didn't get a full set in, told to go away & do a case study; full set then infills 2 weeks later & some written work. Then we will get certification!

The kit is crap...Which I found for 10 quid on eBay...My hubby paid £85 for it.

I'm not utterly convinced the girl that taught us was trained to teach.

What can I do? Where do I stand?

I'm annoyed because my husband was trying to be a good man & he didn't know what to look out for (I would have gone with lash fx or LVL)

So I feel bad for him when I had to tell him that the course wasn't up to scratch & he now feels deflated.

This lady is a con artist that's my gut feeling! Help! Xxx

Unfortunately there's a lot of companies like this around nowadays :( I went to one myself a few years ago, it really is shocking isn't it :/

I'm gutted. More for my hubby! I flew from Germany, stayed in hotels & spent a lot! Is there a list of registered tutors? X

I don't know tbh, I think to be a tutor you have to have certain qualifications, and time served aswel? I really think there should be a review into these training places tho the one near me does everything from hair extensions to eyebrows, nails, tans the lot but the actual quality of training is terrible, they charge loads too! You could try trading standards maybe but I don't know how helpful they'll be, I just put it down to experience when I did some training like that and thought next time I'll go with a propper company, what's done is done, how do you feel your skills are tho? If you don't feel confident then I'd persue some sort of compensation to pay towards another course

As an accredited trainer here in the uk I find that my refresher/ skill building courses are over subscribed because of this exact reason - poor training

The problem you have is everyone wants to jump on the training band wagon whether or not they are any good at lashes.

Applying lashes is a skill - and a hard one - a reason why there are not that many good techs out there / because it needs to be training properly and a lot of continued training needs to be done after too.

What you have stated is shocking but not unusual im sad to say

I personally would be writing a letter of complaint to the company and contacting the accrediting company of this trainer to make a complaint because this is not on!!!!

When searching for a trainer ( and I know your hubby did this as a gift ) you must in my opinion find a specialist - not just someone that does lashes

You must check out the work of that therapist and their students, find out how many take the class, the support u will get after etc

Probably a little late now but just for future

Hopefully this company will give you your money back

Best of luck

Thank you. I have the same opinion as you do. Like I said I would have done a brand specific course that's top end & known for amazing training as well as amazing products.

I will write an email to her and the accrediting company & see how goes.

Thank you for your reply xx

I think if I got a training head I will be fine. I pretty much absorbed what I was shown! Just the quality of the training was abysmal, just chucked some lashes and got on with it. No desire to teach about different lash curls, thickness & lengths in people with unusual natural lashes. Luckily I know this from my own research, just so disappointed about it all!

Hi, I'm in Germany too with the army. I'm a lash tech & could do a session with you if you like? Where are you? Army wives help each other out x

I've emailed the company & not much to my surprise my points are invalid. Apparently all lots come from China & are repackaged. Most courses require you to adhere 3 lashes to pass the course & how she is governing body herself.

Here is the kit I received. Please tell me I have the right to be a little angry. Consider I found the same kit on EBay from the Phillipines for £10.

She may be governing body but it wasn't her that was teaching the class as she was on Holiday!

I'm so disappointed. I don't know what to say in reply!

What a nightmare! I'd tell her there's a mystery learner from trading standards on the way for a course

Unfortunately when certain standards are set as guidelines for courses people take them to litterally this is one of those cases as with all of us who are in the service industry we go above and beyond to produce our best for everyone however people like that who are just in it for the money really couldn't care less, your in and out and they've got a pocket full of money :(

Sorry to hear about your bad experience...and I know your hubby was only trying to help...poor bloke he must feel a bit deflated.

I'm not a lash tech, but I've had similar experiences with training courses.
I've found some courses to be fantastic and some to be very basic..even the accredited ones! I could mention a uv gel nail course I did..but I won't lol!

By all means complain but you might not get very far, the important bit is to salvage what you can:

Maybe get a practice head and practice practice practice. rope in friends and family and do their lashes ( for free if needed) . Read books, watch youtube vids. read on here for hints and tips.

See if that lady on here that offered to help can make sure you are working correctly, and get some pointers on good technique.

The important part is to check out if your course will enable you to get insurance..the rest can be improved, relearnt, or practiced.:D

Hope it goes well!

Thank you all so much. A lesson learnt, but I'm sure with my ambition to learn there will be something salvageable! 😃
