Hi all,
I've started doing nails along with my normal beauty treatments, I did nails a long time ago, but I never practiced it in the work place, so it went on the back burner.. I've been trying to get it back but my only problem is the nails lift after a week... Where am I going wrong and would someone kindly tell me there secret in nails staying put.

The trainer told me it was the product that I was using.. Salon System and Star Nails are not the best product.

I really want to make a go of this and it's getting me down and might bin the idea...

Maybe try a refresher course they are usually a 1 day course.

Just looked at your profile...Welcome the the site I see you joined today! happy posting!

I did!! I put myself on a 5 day course and all is well I mastered it, but for some reason after a week you can see the nails lifting... Could it just be the model's fault (mother-in-law) I'm going to grab someone else to do a full set..

HI

Did your course cover prep?

Why don't you take us through your routine and we can see if anything jumps out?

Hi & welcome to the site x
Lifting can be caused by a number of things, poor prep of the natural nail, the wrong liquid to powder mix ratio, application, etc. My best advice to you would be to do a conversion course with one of the top product company's i.e Creative Nail Design or EZflow (personally id go for Creative). The products you mentioned are not the best in the business, if you want to do sh.t hot nails you need to use AND TRAIN with a sh.t hot product and company.

Good luck

Just make sure you push back the cuticle, remove all non-living tissue from the nail bed, and NEVER let the product touch the skin. I suggest you switch over to CND products or Tammy Taylor they both work exellent!!

havent read all the replies in this thread, but i would say go on a refresher course - its normally the prep that causes these probs, you have to be so specific wih your prep -
try building a house with the foundations not done properly - it would have major probs - it the same with nails - get the prep (foundations) right, and the rest wont falter

I can,t really add all too much since everyone got moste covered as too why you could have lifting problems.
If you have problems with all the sets that you do it is moste likley something that you do or don,t do and not the customers. Make sure you get a 1 on 1 to get to the bottom of the problem. If you try to solve it yourself it could take quite a lot of time and it will only get you more frustrated.

Ok...

Clean hands
Push back cuticle
Remove any skin
remove oil with 300 grit
wipe
Place tip
clean area again
apply primer
apply arcylic..

Just how I was taught... but reading all the other replys, i don't press the arcylic down in zone 3 as I'm worried that I'll leave it too thick, or touch the skin...
I've brought a new product IBD, which my trainer suggested (she is a successful Mobile nail tech) and I will use all the pointed and advise that I have received. Fingers crossed it works..

I would love to shadow someone, does anyone live near Sittingbourne in Kent...

Hi hun and welcome to the site !!.....you must make sure zone 3 is THIN.....not thick hun...this could also be why you have lifting.....do zone 3 so it is very thin.....press the product down when you apply it and dont go to close to the skin xxxxxxxxx

The others have covered your prep, but sad to say; sometimes it IS the model and not the tech/product.
If the nails are too long and she's bashing them about, or not wearing gloves when using house cleaning agents... (that are very harsh for skin and nails) these things can also cause lift.

As do creams/lotions containing mineral oil/petrolatum/petroleum gelly/vaseline. All one in the same, just different formats and names.
They sit on the skin like oil on a rusty hinge.
Camouflaging the problem, but not fixing it (ie: getting rid of the rust)

Do a search on here about lifting and you'll find TONNES of threads with tips and tricks.

Try using a 240/240 grit file for natural nails 300 is very soft. And a huge thing is final finish, make sure you get into that cuticle area and oil buffing is extremely important. x

Hello there, i am having the same problem as you and like you it gets me down because i want to do a really good job, unfortunately i live in croydon but it would be good to get together and try to help each other. x

hello there, zone 1 is the free edge zone 2 is the apex and zone 3 is near the cuticle, good luck

Hi all,

This discussion is really helpful! I have to remember to push back the cuticles and remove any dead tissue. Shame on me and I'm still doin my course!!

I wanted to ask........... if I put half well tips on a person with just barely a short free edge and then do the l & p overlay would that be the cause of the the nail coming off? Should I use the half well tip or sculpt instead?

I recently started doin nails so I know I have a lot to learn. I did a sculpt set last week friday and by the monday when i saw the nails they were lifting in zone 3. I was wondering what I could have done wrong. My client was very hyper! SHe kept talking and laughing moving and shaking even though I was telling her a thousand times to keep quiet. At least they have not come off!!

Can I please just say... Thank you all for your advise and help... I done my mother-in-laws nails again, 2 weeks ago and she is booked in for Saturday for infills/rebalance... It has worked.... I have many new clients and they are calling me back..... thank the lord above.....

Hey, keep at it.... I think I have cracked it now.... I brought a decent product which helps and set myself a route with my prep-work, it may take another 10 - 15 mins during but it works and nails are staying put, no lifting at all.
