I have not been a nail tech for long so I could well be wrong, but I was under the impression that you caould only use the brand of product you trained with ( or conversion course )?

I personally only use 1 brand and thats the one I trained with and I though that it is the only product I am insured to use, however talking to another nail tech, she told me that she uses various brands, even though her only training was with one brand.

Where do nail techs stand with this? Do insurance companies allow you to be insured for any brand as long as you have had proper training with one brand? ie. you train with CND but you can also use The Edge even though you have no training with them?

Also, if you are only meant to use one brand of say gel, do you also have to do a nai;l art course with them if you want to offer nail art ( do you have to have any training to offer nail art at all ? ) do you have to use certain brands of sanitiser, primer, cuticle oil etc...

As I said, all I use is one brand right now and I thought thats all I was allowed to use, if I were allowed, I would love to try other brands out so I could make sure I was using the best brand for me, but some brands dont even have training do they? ( cant think of any by name as I dont use them), but in places like Sallys there are allsorts of different brands and they do not have training - are techs allowed to actually use these on the public? ( not that I would ).

Sorry this has been more long winded than I planned it to be, but if anyone could set me straight on what a tech can and cant use and where you strand with brands and insurance I would be very grateful

I do not really know but i do know you dont have to have training to offer Nail Art. There is no qualification needed. Only the qualifiction for the system you are using it with, like embedding nail art into acrylic so you would have to be trained in acrylic, not the nail art itself. iykwim :)

not too sure huni but you can read my mind coz i was guna ask exactly the same questions!! So thanx, and il look forward to learning from all the replies!!!!

Thats good to know, Im getting quite good with nail art with practice on tips / nail trainer and the courses in my area can be quite expensive, so Im glad I dont have to get a qualification and can just goahead and offer art when Im realdy.

Hi
Sorry but why would you not be allowed to use another brand?! You can walk into any wholesalers and buy what is on offer...My personal opinion is that you should have training for each brand that you use...which is why I now use CND as they will only sell to trained professionals and only once you have had a conversion course. With regards to insurance it is possible that if your insurance is provided by a particular brand it may have a clause in....but this is very unlikely the majority of policys would cover a qualified technician. Hope this helps:)
