I am 58 years old and have really good skin for my age I think. I have no deep lines or wrinkles yet on my face or under my eyes, but of course my skin does not look like it did when I was 30! I do take care of it and moisturise daily morning and night. At the moment I am using the Academie de Beauté range which I love for the skin. I also use Nimue for cleansing and moisturising .... I alternate the 2 ranges every few months or so.

I find that sometimes when I apply pancake foundation (which I try to do lightly and with minimal product) that my skin actually looks older than it does without make up!! But I like to wear a bit of foundation to smooth out the tone of the skin.

I find that my eyes too look older and that any shadow accentuates the fine lines that I thought I didn't have!! They too look better to me without any shadow and only mascara.

My question is --- Is there a make up range that is particularly recommended for older skin so that once it is applied, it looks more youthful instead of actually accentuating the agedness of it?? At the moment I use Channel (liquid) or YSL (pancake).

What advice would you give me?

I went to see a lady on the Mac cosmetics counter in Selfridges a while ago about a very similar thing, she applied foundation and showed me how to do this with a brush and to use minimal powder as it does make any creases look worse.
Hopefully one of our Beauty therapists can explain better.

Hi Geeg

How nice is it when we can help for a change:green:

i.d Bare Minerals

Covers: Scar Tissue, Blemishes etc
Plastic surgeons swear by it for great cover up and even after opps...and soooo pure u can sleep in it.

I've had a look at the full range & it looks great... face powders are so fine.

It would help me to know where any ranges recommended can be purchased.

Can this i.d. range be bought over the counter or from professional salons only.
I'd love to have a demo. I've never tried a mineral range but i have heard they are all the rage now. I normally never use face powder because of the 'accentuating the lines' thing and also it is normally quite warm here and I have visions of powder going all caked and horrid in the humidity ... but would love to try it and have a test drive. . thank you. I'm open to all suggestions.

Thank you too re sheer cover ... where to buy it?

Bare Esccentials, i.d formulations and Jayne Iredale. Are all based on the same theory and are excellent.

Why?? What makes them different and excellent and where can I try or buy?

Hi ya geeg , i would like to suggest estee lauder. Estee lauder do stock a wide range of products which are just fab for the skin ! they sell alot of make-up and skin care - best thing is the consultants will get you to sit down and try the products , then at least you have had the chance to try them out. They will even give you samples to take away. I know it sounds odd estee lauder BUT theyr very good.

Give it a go geeg !
good luck hun

Thank you. I actually used Dermalogica products for years and there is no denying the skin care range is good and effective if a little HUGE. It all confused me in the end and I have to say that for me the tinted moisturiser and make up was not inspiring.

I CAN try Este Lauder here in Spain at good old El Corte Inglais in Alicante so that will be a definite .. thank you again. I will definitely make that one call ... should be fun too.

Have you not tried the Nimue treatment foundations?

minerals are different because you apply it by buffing it into the skin with the kabuki brush. its strange stuff because you think 'how can this actually give cover?' but when you rub it onto your hand it glides on like a cream.

It doesnt really hide but accentuates. Its a bit of a problem if you have really dry flakey skin, but as your skin looks really good you may find it lovely & light to use.

It doesnt look like your wearing make-up at all. Almost like giving you a perfect skin. In id bare escentuals they have accentuating products to give that dewy appearence.

The bare escentuals range is good I have used it for the last 3 years . You acn have it as light or as heavy as you like and it definitely evens out skin tone. It takes a little getting used to but is worth persevering.

it is distributed by Cosmeceuticals Welcome to Cosmeceuticals Ltd - Professional Skincare Science

Jane Iredale which I haven't tried but I am looking into at the moment also gets rave reviews distributed by Landmark Distributers (sorry no web address)

I used to purchase Bare Exscentuals from a spa in Vancouver who ship internationally and had better prices than the UK. I expect they may be an option for yourself in Spain if there isn't a local distributor. They also stock Jane Iredale
Kits & Accessories - Bare Escentuals skin care products

To get prices you need to register just email address and password I think.

They also have a forum on their menu which is a mine of info as well as reviews of BE and Jane Iredale.

Geeg

I dont do beauty, but an amazing foundation (though at the 'higher' end of the price bracket around £100 a bottle (should give u 1 application a day for a year..) its called La Prairie..

the moisturiser is great too, I did treat myself to the 'cheaper' one, though their top of the range moisturiser is approx £365 for a jar!

Harvey Nics or Barkers or somewhere like that would definately have this. I get it from Frasers in Glasgow.

i bought this for my mother last year before she passed away and it was amazing on her, like u, she had great skin and no deep lines..when she went to the casino wearing her new foundation, even guys she knows commented on how radiant she was looking..

clicky for a link to their products for further information

hi geeg, smash box foundation primer is very good, it smoothes out the skin and keeps makeup good as new all day.
Susan molenuex range is very good and they have lots of different products for the muture skin.
Living in a warm country i bet you dont need foundation i would just use a little tinted moisturiser and some powder by laura geller, which is again a very good product.

i have tried so many foundations, mac, channel everything, i found with all of them that they made my skin look dull, they made my fine lines around my eyes more noticable and as i have large pores, would show those up worse, even blushers settled into my pores and looked awful, and yes even i.d bare escentuals minerals did the same.

one day i was watching qvc (i know) and there was models prefer hour on and i purchased the primer, wow felt like silk on my skin totally glided over and didnt settle in my pores or fine lines and no matter waht brand of foundation i put over the top, it glides and makes your foundation look so smooth.

i tried clarins flash balm as my primer before and although very good this models prefer primer, is the dogs watsits, so maybe instead of buying more foundations try the models prefer primer its fan flippin tastic....honest...and i am the worlds biggest make up buyer, so have tried loads of things
p.s sorry for the essay....lol

I am no skin expert so i cant help, sorry....but i find that with my skin the foundation looks fine..its when i apply a pressed powder afterwards to seal that it makes my skin look worse..i once read that we should only be using foundation in the places we need it..and leave places like cheeks with out as we would be applying a blusher in that area anyway. I use a cheep Maybaline foundation called stay fresh and its really nice....gives a doey complexion. xx

im not a qualified beauty therapist (yet!!!) but i was just wondering how you apply your foundation ,as i believe that using a foundation brush ,is much better than using fingers /sponge ect ...
i was taught this during the bodyshop training ,and i use this technique myself now too ...using the bodyshop foundation brush obviously :green: (or i wouldnt be a good advertisment,at my parties)
you can use these brushes with powders or liquid foundations , and apply just right amount wherever needed, they get right into the corners of noses ,eyes ect....
make up glides on with a brush ,and you only use the amount needed ,instead of getting your fingers covered in it ,or having a sponge absorb it all !!!

i know lots of companies supply foundation brushes...worth a try ..
the way you apply your make up is just as important as the make up you use !!!
hope this helps hun
