Hi All,

I had a client tonight that came in for a fill, however she had some amazing nail art on her hands that was done by someone from another country, and the product bottles were not labeled in english. However stunning this application was, I struggled to get it off.

My client confirmed it was gel and looked like mine just different packaging, well this process ended up taking me two hours to complete the service. I filled using the sanding band/carbite bit/hand file, just could not get it off. I am I missing something or do you think it was the product? Thank goodness the client was very understanding but how could I have done this faster.
Any ideas or suggestions would be great.
Thanks

but gel is so easy to file ?
you cant always count on the recolections of the client to be accurate, after all with the best of intentions they dont really know what theyre talking about when it comes to nails do they .

i often get clients say , 'oooh whats that youre doing'?. and i say 'well thats the primer, youve been having it every time for the past 2 years !' or whatever.

did it feel like gel to you ?

Thanks for that Susan - no the stuff on her nails were hard as rock, it was hard to tell as there were so many stones, gems, glitter ect, they really were amazing but rock hard! Do you think I should have tried to soak them off first perhaps it was some sort of acrylic?

I would have done exactly the same thing, sanded it away - all of it regardless off gel or acrylic - did you use a new sand file? at a high enough speed? I use mine in an east west direction mostly.
2 hours is a lot however, with all the glitz and stones she probably had to sit for longer when she was getting hers done so .. dont be so hard on yourself as long as she was happy with your work at the end of the service thats the main thing
xx

It 'may' have been mma
OR
it may have been rock hard gel due to what was mixed into it.

I know that when I do my glitter frenchs, and use the glitter I get from the craft store, they are pretty hard to file off (I mix glitter with gel, prior to application, and I mix it DENSELY) compared to the gel alone.
I attribute this to the glitter which is made of metal...

She also might have added coloured acrylic powder to her gel... (that's another trick I've been known to use).... and who knows what else.

But as was said, it could also be that the client doesn't remember as well as she thinks she does.

I had one client swear up and down she had gel and that it looked the same on the brush...... but after a while... she asked "how come there's no smell?" and "why is your brush so small?"

So, the ball ONCE IT WAS ON THE BRUSH looked similar to gel, she just hadn't paid attention to the dipping into monomer and powder prior to the ball applied to her nail.

hth's

Thanks so much, makes me realize how most clients really don't have any idea of what is being placed on them. I realize now not everything is my fault or my lack of experiance as this could happen to anybody.
I appreciate your comments and feedback
