Hi everyone I quilify in a couple weeks and realy cant decide what to do. Shal I work from home, or go mobile? I am weighing up the pros and cons of both and am still undercided. Im going to have to work a "normal" job to save up for my equipment first though:eek:!! Also if your working from home can you use a dust extractor from argos (think its habia hiba filter) Thanks any advice appreciated xxxxxx:)

I'm a moblie therapist i find that this suits me as i can work around the kids and the bloke plus i dont have to keep my house pristine as people dont come around!!!! bit hard to do with a husky puppy who is worse than the kids!!!! the only problem i have is with equipment i have a biggish car a ford focus but i just cannot get my couch in the boot believe me i have tried but it just wont go!!! Anyway, if you do want to go mobile make sure the clients know what the benefits are eg they can relax at home, if they have a relaxing treatment they dont have to drive/walk home they can just flop of the sofa etc this worked for me to build up a good client base as well as the handy business tips from on here thanks geeks xxx

Well when i first started i had decided i wanted to be mobile , as it would fit round the kids, be easier and fill a niche by me, but......

i now do half mobile half home based, and i much prefer home based for few reasons

A) they come to me so they are doing the traveling, meaning i can fit 3 clients in between school hours rather than only one or 2 if i do mobile

b) sometimes things like sick kids, husbands who forget to tell you they are working late, etc crop up, if im doing mobile i have to cancel, if im working at home they can still come to my salom

c) i cannot retail properly mobile, whereas i have all my polishes etc displayed on shelves in my salon, and all the nail art and colourpops on display, i find this helps so much more

d) i find the client relaxes more even though its not proper salon, it seems like one and they really enjoy it

e) it can be pain taking mani/pedi/nail art/enamels /waxing/heated mitts etc with you, cos if they decide to upgrade treatment, dont want ot turn awy extra dosh , juts cos i aint brought the stuff with me, so car ends up being full, sometimes for nothing

the upside to mobile is, clients can no show at your salon, whereas ive never got to a clients house and there not in (could happen though i suppose)

i dont have to clean house before work in the morning lol

you dont have to change house insurance and alert council etc, which can be pain in the bum etc

hths chick xxxxx

it's really up to you, i found this article really interesting http://www.salongeek.com/business/34574-pros-cons-being-mobile-nail-technician.html
i personally would love to work from home, but i don't have a spare room and my lounge isn't big enough to fit a nail table (plus my 2 leopard geckos might freak a few people out), so i will be going mobile when i qualify in a few weeks so i can fit it around my full-time job.

I am going mobile so I can fit it round my children and hubby.
