I was sooooo impressed with the 3d nail art at the trade show in sydney...

Can some of you talented 3d geeks tell me your secrets and what powders you use.... i have some ezflow colours and i just can't make them "mould"... I have had a go at a rose ( tried to copy catherine wongs she did on me..)...
It went see thru as the colour was based in a clear powder...
Any tips would be great.... NO one does it is my area and i think i could find my own little place in the 3d world...

Thanks
Mel

Hi, the pastel collection is really good for 3D work as it is white powder based as opposed to clear, I sometimes use a colour from another collection mixed with a pastel colour to give a two-tone effect.

I also use the gemstones collection for 3d work as the colours are really bright.

hth :)

Hi,
I have the gem stones collection and talented talons (wendy) suggested i get the pastal collection so i ordered that one today..
You also answered another question...can i mix the colours in the collections for different effects..
thanks

Yes you can hun, I normally use 2 different colours for flowers, I take my brush and dab into one colour then another and when you press your bead out you get the two-toned effect. Another thing that I found is it's better to work quite dry.

Just make sure that one of the colours is white powder based.

Yes thanks i think that is where i am going wrong..... i was just so easger ( my problem with alot of things) to get right in and have a go that i was just messing it up...
So one of them has to be white based ( main colour) and then the other what ever???
and then work a little drier.. right.. think i have it..
Also when i try a little flower ( with the gemstones) the first petal looks great.... then i try and layer the other one on top/overlap.... and you can't see the defined petal.. it sort of melts into the other one...??? to wet????.... grrrr...
might also start a post of best 3d training...
thanks
mel

I know what you mean hun, this was where I was going wrong, working too wet at first, what I do, after I have picked up my colours is to gently press my brush on a wipe, it really helps. The overlapping part with your petals, if you place your second bead a tad further away this will allow space for when you press it out iykwim.

Ahhhhhh.. makes perfect sense... thanks..... i was putting it right where i wanted it to finish.... not giving room for pressing....
wonderful... I will give the gentle press a go too...
thanks you have been a great help... fast too..lol

Creating 3D designs is fun and is also a great learning curve. It will teach you loads about ratio and protuct control.
Have fun and post some pics for us to see.

try Cesars or La femme

i find the best powders for 3 d work ar nfuoh, which is the brand katherine wong uses.
however i also have lots of other brands though and it perfectly possible to work with any of them.
you will get the best results from faster setting brands.
one tip that helps is to mix your monomer 1/2 and 1/2 with acetone.
that will help the design to set up faster and preserve a nice crisp finish.

another thing that will help is when you pick up the bead of acrylic, dab the back of the brush on to a tissue to drain off excess monomer and this will keep a good dry ratio and help you control the product.

Hi,

I have studied 3D since 4 years ago as nail art is my passion.

I am using powders from NfuOh in the 3D range although I have no supplies from UK.

You can create stunning design in petals with shimmer effect for 3D but patience is required and I am suggest to watch a master at work closely.

I too am finding acrylic powders of very high quality from La Femme. The rose of love glitter pink is simple beauty.

I am also providing a hyperlink to an easy guide to 3d petal with sparkles.

3D is my love so keep working happy and I am sure you will arrange beautiful designs.

I'm no expert but I've played around with a few and I find NFU Oh definitely beats them all IMO... I recently spent a day with Catherine Wong and she taught me so much about 3D design nails.. The NFU Oh powders are just amazing! And the colors!!! Nfu.Oh: Design Shells and Wraps by Catherine Wong

Go with nfu.oh i would say. i got mine from two days back and really like the products. i do think that nfu.oh makes it easier to work with due to workability, how the products sets up and the colour intensity. After trying it i understand why nfu.oh is so promoted to do 3D flowers. i think that the powders work perfectly to create very thin layers of petals which are really marked * since the product sets faster* no matter how small you work aswell as the intensity of the colors that stay no matter how flat you make your bead.
I also have to add that i always got by doing 3D work with other brands which in the end worked out for me aswell, but i think that with nfu.oh i fiddle less around.
I will probably post some pics of work done with nfu.oh since i'm gonna put them to use this weekend :wink2:

i also use colors from nfu.oh and they are realy beautiful but i use also colors from different brands such as ez flow and a lot from Odyssey nail systems ( they realy have many many colors available in big and small jars )
